Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
Calling all Comp-ARF Tutor owners....
I am currently in the process of having some tanks and pylons made up to fit the Comp-ARF Tutor by an ex-aircraft composite specialist. I envisage having them ready in the next few weeks at which point they will be test flown to ensure there are no adverse affects on the model and then available for purchase. Obviously, until they are completed and all material/plug costs are calculated, it is a little tricky to come up with an exact price but I would estimate a retail of approximately 170GBP
They will come as a pair (i.e. 2 pylons and 2 drop tanks) ready to fit on the model so there will be no need to work out how to mount the tanks to the pylons and they will be painted in the molds to match the Snowbird scheme.
If you would be interested in a set, please can you let me know either on this thread or by PM.
They really finish off the look of a model that is proving a real pleasure to fly.
Rgds,
Mark

RE: Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
Hi Mark
Will the smoke tanks be fully functional? I had a lot of fun flying mine this weekend. Since I have the two spray nozzles for smoke it doesn't take too long to blow it all out. I would have some interest in the tanks. When you are little closer with a confirmed price let me know. Thanks for doing the preliminary work on this.

RE: Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
Hi Alan,
No they won't. With a smoke tank setup as standard on the model there is little point in adding all the complexity, weight and cost of turning these into fully functional additional tanks.
Sorry
Mark

Yep, all removable!
But need a few more to want a set to make the costs of re-usable plugs rather than splashing a one off set for mine [8D]
Cheers,
Mark

RE: Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
OK,
Despite the lousy weather I spent yesterday flying and got a chance to test the pylons/smoke tanks on my Tutor.
There's really nothing to say to be honest. Flew a couple of flights with just the pylons and absolutely no discernible difference, then added the tanks themselves and, as before, nothing changed. I tested slow flight, fast flight, aerobatics and all was absolutely fine. They really look great. I was tempted to just keep a set for me but that just wouldn't be fair
Next step is to finalise the tank attachment method and price.
Those still interested, please PM me.

RE: Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
Guys,
Just a quick update on these.
The serial production molds from the protoypes are now completed and I will receive the first production set on Tuesday/Wednesday next week. I will post pictures and then be able to take official orders.
Rgds,
Mark

Yep. Please bear in mind that these won't come like most other ordnance sets where you get 2 fibreglass mouldings and that's it.
These come with all the mounting mechanisms in place. The tank simply slides onto the pylon via carbon rods. A single bolt in the pylon pulls an internal clamping mechanism in place to secure the tanks. All the internal parts are laser cut ply.
All you'll need to do to mount them is drill 2 holes per pylon in you fuselage and put a ply disc/captive nut inside.

Sounds sensible to ship all together. Have a chat to your guys and see how many you need - maybe some extra for you to move on yourself to future Tutor builders??
Payment can be by bank transfer or PayPal (might need to add couple of % for this)

RE: Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
OK,
Here are my final prototypes. A few things to note....
+ The finish is not too great on mine as the paints used came from a faulty batch apparently and pickled/wrinkled several times requiring sanding back and repainting etc [>:]
+ The production pylons will likely not be 'open' as in the pic. This was to allow us to come up with a strong/quick to release mechanism inside. Although, I do believe the full size are 'open'. It also gives the benefit of being able to repair the internals without ordering new pylons if any damage occurs - so what do you think?
+ The tanks will come in primer
+ The retaining clamp bolt on the sides of the pylons for the production items will be a smaller 3mm bolt.
+ They come ready to fit. You'll need to drill 4 x holes in your fuselage and fit 4 ply blocks with captive nuts and that's it. They took 10mins in total to fit to my model last night.
