*** Pensacola Jets 2011 *** (maybe)
Hey Gang,
A few of us in the Holley Flyers have been wanting to resurrect Pensacola Jets. For sure we are going to press forward to do it in 2012. Ideally October would be the month, since the weather here in NW Florida is usually the best of the year then. As you may know, we fly out of Holley OLF in Navarre, FL, which is a U.S. Navy training field. The field has 2 paved 3500 ft x 150 ft runways, north/south and east/west.

We have also been thinking about trying to squeeze it in for this year, but looking at the 2011 schedule, there are already events in the southeast then (Shreveport and Mid-Georgia.) So, it looks like November would be the month. Of course, now the risk of a winter cold front comes into play, especially if a later weekend, such as the one before Thanksgiving is chosen...as some well know from a past event!
So, I am posting this thread to gage interest in a Pensacola Jets 2011, if it was to be held in November. This also depends (as does 2012) with getting the Navy's approval to hold the event. Please let me know if you might be interested, and any other suggestions you might have.
Thank you,
Randy

Sluggo,
I wouldn't be able to make it this year, but would like to try for next year. Could incorporate the fly-in with a trip to Tampa to see our son who is stationed at CENTCOM in Tampa. The 150' wide runways are a great attraction!
Regards,
Gus

Hey Gus,
That would be great! We realize this year might be pushing it. If nothing else we might get guys from the southeast to come down and hopefully generate renewed interest in a jet event here. For sure we should have our ducks in a row for next year.
And yes, Holley is nice. Besides plenty of length and width, having N/S and E/W runways help, as well. Also, it's flat off of the runway ends and sides, so that in case a jet happens to run off into the rhubarb it shouldn't be too ugly.
Nice avatar, BTW

Craig, Joe, Bob, Jed...thanks for the support! We talk with the Navy tomorrow, and when I can say that this event brings people from all across the South, even from as far away as Texas, that will help make our case for sure.
It goes without saying that I won't mention that Boli would like to attend...no need to get us shutdown before we even leave the chocks.

UPDATE ON P'COLA JETS 2011
I have been in contact with the Navy's field manager, and will be submitting a proposal. The 4th quarter field usage meeting will take place soon, and this plan will be included.
I am requesting Veteran's Day weekend for the event, 11-13 Nov. It would be great having scale military jets, in all of the various livery's, flying on this weekend as a salute to our veterans. Also, with this being a government holiday, I'm hoping this will give a better chance of the field being available to us.
Further, in keeping with Veteran's Day, I have indicated to the Navy that all proceeds, once expenses have been covered, will go to the Wounded Warriors and the NAS Whiting Field Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) as a 'thank you' from all of us in the rc jet community to our armed forces personnel.
I'll keep y'all posted...again, this is all tentative at this time.
