Looks great, still one of my favorite models, I'd not flown mine for 8 months but with the test flight of my friend Rob's on Saturday I decided to take it along. Still flys as good as ever!

Hello Dave, what do you think the final weight for the 2nd gen Global Mig 15 will be with a P120? I am debating their kit or the larger Carf Mig which comes in at about 26-28 lb dry. Thx in advance for your answers...

Too heavy with nose weight needed. Both would be over powered, the P-100 in mine is too much really, though perfect for real scale flight. I'd go CARF, though both models struggle with availability of Gear!
Rob's example set up exactly as mine with a P-100Rx needed 700g of nose weight...mine has none! I guess the tail construction is the variable

not sure of the final weight yet. This will be a little heavier as it needed quite a few repairs to get it flight worthy again. This one has a Merlin 100 in it and Mike the former owner said it was a good match. At that I have all my batteries and cockpit and pilot as far forward plus some lead to get it to CG.
Im missing my gear doors from the prior crash so may just fly it without them for now. I have them on order from GJC.
Last thing on finishing her was to use some pastels to get the rivets to pop and clear coat with mini wax clear satin. This really helps the paint settle down and gives it that. Matte look.
Going to try to fly it next weekend at the field where we have Best in the West. I'll post the good and the bad.

Well the MIG is back in action. Great flyer. I put in a igyro so that just locked her in. Plenty of power with the Merlin 1/2 throttle was great performance. The wheels roll for ever ...so I need to trouble shoot my brakes as that was my only issue.
Very happy with with this one. Drew lots of compliments and attention
Thanks Mike.

Hi! Some questions of balancing the ship:
The tail-assembly seems rather heavy, looks like I will need a lot of weight up front.
You are balancing with empty tanks & full UAT the normal way I guess? The UAT I have are so small I think it will not matter much.
What of the front-tank - this will have some effect on the CG from full to empty, but from what I read this almost never fully drains so maybe it will not make much difference?
I found somewhere in this thread a CG-point of 6 inches forward of TE. Does this sound about right?

Tow, mine needed no extra weight in the front to balance. Mine was balanced 145mm forward of TE. Right on rear spar I believe. Was spot on for the CG. It will sit on tail with no fuel in it. Once fuel is added it is ok. It is a great flying jet. It will float on landings, and roll forever on the bearing wheels.

You guys all talking about balance with no fuel!? I told Tore to balance with hopper full and front tank 50% as that's how it generally lands!

Hmmm............ Just curious. I `m well aware of from my larger MiG (the CARF one) the CG isn`t all that critical on these machines, but as this one have a much higher wing-loading I just want to get it about right for the maiden at least. What I learnt from Dave, not as prone to get into the kangaroo-state on landings either. As of now the climate here does not invite to flying much, but as they say......Time will show.......

Finally got everything on board. With a VT-80 she ends up a tad under 10 kg dry wich is good I think. When attempting balancing as per Daves recommandation I end up rather nose-heavy at 145mm. Looks more like the sweet point will be on the main former (fuselage split). Still very light on the nose-wheel thou. Should I assume everything to be OK then?

Mine was quite light on the nose wheel, like Mike said its not overly fussy. It does have a small tail, so loading it up with a bit of nose weight is not an issue.

It took its time but I finally got around to maiden the MiG! :-) Flew great and will be even better when getting the throws and CG a little more sorted out. First impression is positive I must say, part from I feel it could use a little more power than the VT-80. Then again - Will need a lot more testing. Sorry no pics at this time, will come later!

can you be more specific on the CG or balance point
This model has no weight, the ECU pack is a std Li-Fe 2100mAh JetCat item, I'll probably move it back as fat of fuel, it is a little nose heavy. Weight is around 22lb with a little fuel.
Balance is at 6" forward (wing root) with MAP full and some fuel in the 32oz Dubro. (6" forward from where ?)
Did I say-I really like this aeroplane
