We're here!

Well, close by, anyway. Ann got the thumbs up from the doctors to travel, so we took the two days we didn't use at Gardner and tacked 'em on to the beginning of the week. Gave us a full two weekends to play, so we're camped out at a campground just north of Kennebunk, and just south of Biddeford. Gonna do the relax thing, like do just about nothing for a few days but chill out and enjoy. Except, I get to do most of the cooking and cleaning... But it's worth it!

Got the Phoenix, and the Scorpion. I'm ready to burn some kero! Man, were we bummed to miss Gardner. Gotta make up for that!

See you all soon!

Today being Weds Spetember 7 the current weather is looking awesome for the weekend. The forecast starting Friday shows bright sunshine and temps in the low to mid 70's. I have a work party planned for Friday morning starting at 8:00 AM. It should take us a couple hours to get the field layout organised and ready for flying to start at noontime. As most are already aware we will be operating off of the taxiway which was used as our pit area last year. This will direct our flightpath 90 degrees to how we've been flying in the past. This is to avoid our flying over the instrument land system (ILS) equipment as we've done in the past. This new configuration provides for a runway which measures 55 feet wide and a bit over 600 feet long with reasonable overrun. The approaches on both ends are very clear. Plans are to fly Friday from noon till 7:00 PM with limited public access therefore test flights will be allowed. Saturday flying is 9:00 AM til 5:00 PM and Sunday 9:00 AM till 3:00 PM. No test flying of new models will be allowed on Sat or Sun. We will have a short noonish time demo period but no full scale airshow is planned for this year. We will have a designated helicopter area for flying on Saturday & Sunday only. This area will be to the most westerly side of the field layout with a plan to fly heli's facing to the west and no conflict to the jet flying which will mostly be facing east. Effectively the two groups are flying back to back with the pit area inbetween seperating the lines by over 150 yards. This should work fine and enhance the event for the spectators in attendance. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and will be curious to hear how the new layout is received.

Hi Ray,

What are the overrun areas? Pavement or grass? Does the 600 foot event runway have the actual runway as an overrun on one side?

Thanks,
Greg

Hey DON, I will be arriving this afternoon as well.  Ray never got back to me to confirm Thursday arrival, so not sure if we will get in or not.  Both Jim and I will be there though, even if we are camping in the parking lot.  I am going to call Ray on the way to find out what is going on.  If we are inside, then one of us will be the gatekeeper.  Not sure which one will be the keymaster though

Just want to thank everyone, had a great time at Maine Jet Rally as usual. I know the hard work that goes into putting an event like this on, and a big thank you to Ray Labonte and his staff for making sure its always a pilots pleasure. Just a couple of pics....and maybe the PA announcer should get 3 lobster rolls

Also we have a new kid on the block, Jason Plummer, good up and coming talent. And am sure he will be an asset to the r/c jet community for years to come. Good job Jason.

Take care
Jeff Lynds

Brian, you know what they say in Peabody; An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth. Better watch your behind as you know it wont be long before you suffer the wrath of the revenge of Dominic. To Ray and crew thanks again for another great event. Good flying , good weather and the Dominic and Brian traveling circus show always brings a good laugh. To my fellow pilots form NY and NJ who bagged out, you guys missed a good time . Please ask Santa to bring you a pair of these for next year. If any one wants to purchase the Dominic removal tool Brian has a dozen of them in stock, shoot him a pm.

Ray,

Sue and I had a great time at MJR... we always do.

Thank you and the sponsoring club for your efforts. The runway location was good and not a problem (if I can take-off and land from it, ANYONE can ), your new plan for next year's flight ops area on the main runway will as great as the past year's events.

This weekend, we all discovered one of the pilots has a 'hidden talent'.... Jeff Lynds. Jeff did so well on the PA during the short half-time show, he is now toying with the idea of buying DJ equipment and working weddings as his new 'hobby'.

Here's a pic of DJ Jeff 'Scuba Tank' Lynds workin' the crowd... Whadup Boy-eeeee

Completely independant of the great job that Ray does in organization and providing us with a fantastic place to fly (yes the runway was shorter than we are used to but certainly adequate, even for me) I want to remind you all of the wonderful apre fly buffet. Thank you Karen, Sue, Debbie and the entire JPC group for pleasing our palets. The flavor of Sue's wonderful lemon creation and Karens stunning artichoke dip still lingers in my mouth. Great weekend and Great Friends and thanks again to Bob and Maureen for getting me those socks (inside story here).
