My first ever turbine- flight
Hi All!
My first flight with a turbine-model is accomplished! Everything went well exept for a collapsing nose-wheel on landing.
Model is a CH (Ziroli) Panther w. Simjet 85 for power.
I just can`t stop grinning

RE: My first ever turbine- flight
Thanks guys!
Now if anybody have tips for bleeding off speed in the landing-approach I would be very thankful....
The only (problem) I had was a tendency to come in too high and too fast. What I did was dropping half flaps and gear on downwind going full flaps on approach maintaining some power in the circuit, but the darned thing won`t sink! Just floated past me and I had to go around several times to finally get it down with my pride still intact....
Any hints to what I`m doing wrong?

RE: My first ever turbine- flight
Nothing wrong with ! That's the same for everybody I think...
It was case for me. We are not really used with so much speed range with that sort of plane when we are rookies. During first flight, by security, we fly the plane mostly high speed and some times forget to test slow range. Being used to fly that plane always more than 200Km/h during 5 minuts, you feel really scared when you have to slow down with the sensation of a really too slow airplane, but it is still high speed... and don't land.
Tips ? Try to do a slow fly test with altitude to test slow range, and do a slow speed pass to switch down the gear, to remember how your plane fly at low speed and to get back some references.
And mostly : you have to fly your plane to find how to land it : the good speed, the good approach slope, the good power setting, etc... Not all the planes lands the same way.

Spend a flight getting use to slow flight. A lot of guys never spend time learning how their airplane will handle in slow flight and then when it's time to land, they come in very hot. Just as in full scale flying, if you're too fast, pich up a little as pitch controls airspeed. If you're sinking too fast, add power. If you're not sinking fast enough, reduce power as power controls rate of descent. Hope this helps you and congratulations.

Congrats Tow!
I know how you feel. I just flew my first turbine flight two weeks ago. It felt almost like the first time I soloed a full scale plane;-)
Awesome feeling when you land and all goes well. Cheers

Chances are if you are approaching nose down, you will be hot during flare.
With time you will learn your model, and find the spot where all you will need are a couple of clicks of throttle adjustment to land exactly where you want.
Congrats!

RE: My first ever turbine- flight
Thank you all for your kind replying. Guess I will learn how to handle the throttle settings with more flights and time. What really caught me by surprise were watching this 31+pounds plane floating past me with the turbine on idle!

Hi Tow.
Congratualtion with a nice plan and well done first flight, the best you can do to get to know the aircraft is to fly very much and burn a lot of kero
Any video of the first trip?

Yeah, you have to be careful with that lol. They look so cool flying buy it's easy to forget you are flying it! NEVER DO THAT lol.. I think you will be fine if you follow the advice above. That Panther will land much slower than you think. Also, try watching others land theirs to see how they do it.

Real simple. Make one extra lap fully configured. Concentrate on slowly getting to a controlled speed and alt position. Works like a champ

congrats im looking forward to my first one soon well first one that I take off and land myself
if I have one gear collapse I will prob convert everything I own from that point on to electric retracts.

RE: My first ever turbine- flight
wow, just came back from flying my first 3 turbine flights on my new MBA Tornado. Kingtek K80F and Hitec Servo's. Amazing flier and a great way to burn some kerosine. With the help of some friends they have made it all happen. I am so happy I can barely sleep. My wife reminds me that I can't sleep down here with the Tornado tonight, but for now I just want to cuddle it more...LOL
