Giant T-33 in Brazil
Well, I suppose you guys may be interested in seeing this project: Some years ago a local friend (Nelson Kaminski) made a all-wood giant T-33. had a 3.3 meters of length, weighted 75 pounds and was powered by a AMT olympus engine.. it flew very well with this setup but unfortunately the wing spar failed and the aircraft crashed.
After this, he teamed with two more friends interested in this plane for making a fiberglass version of the T-33.. it took years of hard work, a full-time builder specialized in FG, brainstorming and help from many other local modelers to achieve three basic kits of this aircraft, and the first one got finished this week.

The kit was basically a empty shell of FG, so lot´s of work was needed and Mr.Patake made in a few months a lot of work.. took this pics today as I was also asked to help a bit in this project.

this one will be powered by a JC P-180... the plane has a very thin FG fuselage but Mr.Patake made many reinforcements with CF, so the plane seems to be strong to the task.

This one was finished with silver paint and pro-mark graphics. Jerry Claude gently made three custom sets of graphics for this specific size.. After all this years, he still makes the best and more accurate graphics you can put on a jet, in my opinion.

Moving surfaces and deflections are not big in this jet, so 180 oz/in servos are instaled, one for each moving surface. No powerbox needed or wanted in this one...

Landing gear is homemade, as well the wheels and tires. they are big, but the mains are smaller than scale. Unfortunately the double wing spar construction didn´t left enough room for scale wheel diameter. Due to this it was difficult to reproduce the main doors as they are in full scale..

this is a area that is worrying me a bit.. will the wing hold in this new version? the first one used a single steel tube that didn´t worked, and now a double aluminun spar was choosen. Guess that there is only one way to know!

Radio guidance is undecided yet.. my budget conscious friend suggested his Futaba gear he had for years.. I suggested another and more updated transmitter.

The cabin area is huge, and Mr. Patake made a nice rendition of the T-33 original ejector seat based on internet pictures. There is no detailing yet, as we want to see this bird fly as soon as possible.. it will be a special day and hope that all will work ok, as I was asked to drive this thing around for the first time. Hope to be lucky and hope to post more pics and a video of the maiden!

What I don't like with aluminium plates is the blade effect !
Under load these plates will act as blades and will try to make their way through the wings.
Usually, the best possible setup is to glue the plates in the wings and make aluminium joiners with tracks for the plates that are crewed on the two main fuselage formers.
In this case, I'd be interested to know how the builders made the wing boxes.
Also remember that there is no need to guess the servo power requirements. Just use the control calc spreadsheet:

No guessing involved.. have some experience on numbers of dynamic pressure at unusual speeds.
I am also not a huge fan of this wing structure method.. however you can´t believe how strong is the wood used in the boxes.

Hi Joao, tudo bem?
Yes, the Brazilian air force had a few T-33´s, flown under the designation TF-33A. No many schemes available here, and most of the surviving examples where painted to prevent corrotion, killing most markings and all the nice manutention nomenclature.. so we opted for this USAF scheme.
About your holydays, great to know you are visiting us. If you want bring a jet or two!

Yes, sad but there is not muching else to do, as keeping them in a museum in original conditions is very expensive and paint will help protect them for rusting out in no time... de los males el menor.
Fortunately here and there people is trying to keep this machines in better conditions. There is a T-33 being restored in a local museum along with many other priceless historical airplanes.
(some pics of them here) http://www.flickr.com/photos/museutam/

Wow what a beautiful Model! I love the attention to deatil on the paint and decals. I hate to see such a beautifully engineered model not have proper markings, but my hatsoff to the engineers and builders of this fine Jet!! BTW, cool picture of the museum! I love to see that these priceless pieces of Aviation history are being preserved for later generations.

Hooker53: Based in the choices shown here, even the Futaba guys will agree on going JR this time!
