I am finally happy with my KT engine install. I removed a section of the carbon fiber below the engine as per the manual for additional cooling. That eliminated almost all of the tension for mounting the engine.
Put it all back in the fuse and everything lined up perfect. All I added was a 1/16 shim.
Thanks for your input Sailing 1.

Latest Viper in 'Caymen' scheme, P-180Rxi-B and JR 28X. All JR servos. Powerbox Royal. MAP Hi-Flow bubble trap with 6mm tube.
Built by one of Motors & Rotors preferred builders, Roger, we think its stunning.
Details include screen in the dash! Powerbox MPX wing leads. Std CARF gear.
We are discussing decals to bring it alive like the race car we were inspired by.

Really nice work...but I really would not extend the overflow tube like that. Shortest route possible. I raise the tube up as it comes out of the tank to stop the syphoning, I know that method is popular with Gas model people...but that's even worse for a pumped carb to deal with.

That sounds about right. Mine balanced at 36 lbs without any extra weight but I stuck a 5000 MAH lipo way up front for the electric gear. Didn't need that big a battery but figured I might as well carry useful weight. I only need to pull the lipo and charge it about every 10-15 flights. Don't remember what turbine you are using but I flew mine for 3 seasons on a 36 lb Rhino. Flew great on that power even with full fuel and smoke. Changed last year to a 45 Lb Rhino 200. Not a whole lot faster top end but will go straight up forever with that much thrust.
You will love the Viper.

The CARF Viper flies best with a rear ward balance point. Huge tail it does not need loading to fly smoothly, I don't remember the exact reference point but use the provided jig and rear hole. 200 is way excess power... 160-180 is ample at sea level

Dave, I agree 200 is excess power if you use all of it all of the time. I upgraded mine because it was almost time to send the 160 in and I wanted the newer power pack and upgraded electronics. The extra power is nice when flying out of my 400 ft strip with full fuel and smoke loads. A real plus was that the newer Jet Central Rhino 200 burns about 20 percent less fuel. I like to fly about 7 minutes takeoff to landing. With the 160 Rhino I was landing with about 20 percent fuel (standard tank). With the 200 Rhino have land with 40 percent reserve.

The 200 has fantastic grunt when transitioning from a slow gear up full flap pass to an up-line vertical.
Dave - how far back would you suggest I go with the CG.?

The other day I was landing full flaps (80%) gear down didn't like how it looked over the runway, went to full power flew off like it didn't know the gear and flaps were down.
Never over half power except for the verticals.
Some one asked me if that was to much power I told him that was what the throttle was for.

I would go back 10mm from front of wing tube with 1/4 tank of fuel.
Having the use of the throttle is great...many struggle with flying at 1/3rd throttle stick position and it creeps above half way where they feel comfortable and 'normal' Then things are going too fast, sky is covered too quickly and turns executed in a rush...
Some people are fine..many more in my experience not!

I also have 200xbl in mine, and I had to have 400g lead to balance it on the rear hole in the jig. KISS setup, 2 x 2500mAh A123 (RX), 2s 3300mAh (Turbine) and 3s 1000mAh (Gear) in front.
I removed half of the lead first then the rest, and the plane is neutral and fine.

Electron retracts ER 40 on grass.
I have their "Hard springs" installed but still tends to bottom out taxing on grass.
Anyone here using electrons I would like their input please.
Plane weighs 36.5 Lbs.
Peter.
