Do they offer the electronics to support the upgrade parts?

the polulu serial servo controller is available in 6, 12 and 18 channel versions. the 12 channel one is only $25. I believe the programming software is available for free off the website. The video figure as shown is not integrated into an RC system. It is on a "loop" feature that uses pre-programmed position points and just goes to each point for a certain amount of time, and at the end, it starts all over again.

Thomas, this is really interesting. I've played a little with movement, but only hooked up to 1 channel (usually aileron).

I'm not sure that more that 6 channels is needed for our purpose, correct? It looks like the churchillcreations pilot only takes 3 servos internally, so would that mean it's only a 3 channel pilot?

If you do their "commander" pilot. Its 4 channels. Which is 1 channel/servo per arm, and 2 servo's/channels for the head (pitch and twisting). IMO if its a deep/concealed cockpit that can't be viewed very well from outside (such as a WW2 warbird, or the like) then their isn't much point in doing anything other than head movement. no more than 6 channels will work for about 99% of the pilots most of us would use, and even then I would just Y the head servo's into their respective channels instead of using the polulu controller.

I did something a little like this with basic stamps but the polulu system has a good reputation and is cheaper. The explosion of hobby robotics has made these things pretty affordable.

My module was programmable by the radio, you pushed a button and then it would record a sequence and run the loop. You could also set it up so the head would favor the direction you are turning with the rudder, but still move to check the other direction and look into the cockpit. I find these things fascinating and those parts look to make the mechanicals simpler and more robust, well done.

Matt, can you share a little more about your module? Perhaps a video of what's possible. This is pretty cool. I have a 1/6 BB pilot destined for an F-16 that this may be a nice touch on...especially since the canopy is so open on the F-16. thx.

thanks for the link ! [8D]

i just ordered the 6ch servo controller to play around with ... they also have a multiplexer which allows to switch in RC rx control on off between direct tx control or antonymous controller loop ... cool stuff !!

That is cool V. Please post your findings. I may do the same, and order the conversion parts too.

Hi all,

I'm Sym from Churchill Creations, I also work for YT International here in the UK. Glad you like the vids, if anyone needs any help with animatronics then please ask.

There will be a range of pilots from YT in the new year covering various scales, the intention is to encorporate at least moving heads into all of them as an option. I'm currently working on 1/16th tank figures for the Tamiya/Heng Long range.

I hope the mods don't mind but I've added some useful links below that explain the build process together with FAQ's and basic controller programming, enjoy...

I just got the 6 ch controller board in ... very neat .. here is a pic of the board and the USB programing cable. There is a lot of free software available for programing/scripting ... there is another module i have on order that mixes in Rx input to ofset the looped program that gets loaded on this one ... power comes in on one of the servo ports .. small, simple, awesom

I am rebuilding another Skymaster MB339 with a 1/4 scale pilot. This time he will be fully automated [8D] ...

again, thanks for sharing the link guys !
