Default JL F-18 airbrake

Hello,

I'm building a JL F-18 and I'm wondering how you guys did hinge the airbrake?
I'm still wondering if it worth having it functionnal or not?

Did someone mix the ailerons into flaperons, is it a good idea or not,

Thanks
Florent

Search for JL F-18 or SM f-18 there are many pics on how to do this. I have a build thread on this EXACT f-18C.

I would hit my airbrake after dropping to full flaps and I went downwind, base to final with the airbrake out. I barely noticed any difference so I would do it all the time just so I could see it!

hello i have the chippy ho skymaster extreme f-18c ,i know they are different plane but my speed brake is done with the robart style pin hinges i never land without it after the first few test flights were done,i notice that it pushes the tail of the plane down just a touch but i have moved my c of g back a little also ,i have not tried a flaperon mix but did alter the flaps some to get more travel,i did a taileron mix but never use it my ailerons seem to be very effective but that could be from an aft c of g setting also, the c of g moved back some helps with a flatter take off and a softer set down of the nose on landings, still the f-18s seem to come in a little firm from all the different models and pilots i've seen fly them ,i really like my c model

Thanks for the replys,
Carlos I had already seen your threads, your F18 is gorgeous

Raf, I 've searched all the threads but never acually found a pic of the hinges themselves.
I wanted to hide them but it looks like the easy way is too put two robart pin hinges and cut down a little part of the brake, but it doesn't really look good.

Dsr I see what you mean about the firm landings, looks like you have to keep the power until touchdown and flare it with throttle

Thanks
Florent

I didn't like the robart pin hinges style, So I did things differently. As for using the speed brake, I link mines with wheel brakes and its an easy access to the elevator servo.
