As a non professional, I just find it amazing that several hundred people, sitting in several hundred tons of aluminium and plastic, can just flop onto the asphalt travelling at over a hundred miles an hour. AND NO ONE GETS HURT.
A testament to the designers of the aircraft, the training of the operators, and the safety systems at the airport.

Back in about 1979 or so, someone here in Boeing Country printed some bumper stickers. They said "Boeing 1-cent sale. Buy a 747 and get a DC-10 for 1 cent. Douglas was PI$$ED! Of course that was shortly after the AA DC-10 dropped an engine and crashed at O'Hare. Douglas continued to fill existing orders for the DC-10, but never sold another after that crash.

This was posted on one of our work related boards today.
Hmmmm....interesting, but can't say it's true or not.

>>FACT:
The aircraft was taken to a hangar and placed on jacks.
The landing gear extended normally.

OPINION and some WORDS of WISDOM regarding this event...
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, ALWAYS CHECK CIRCUIT-BREAKERS.

. Usually it looks like the pilot just drops the damn thing,
. Usually it looks like the pilot just drops the damn thing,
Why do you people make such really silly statements ?
Get yourself to an airport and watch the landings and see just how very many are really gentle AND at the correct point on the runway (one of the most important aspects of a GOOD landing ) !

In the U.S. since 911 most if not all airports are off limits to observers you cant even park a car within a mile or two of a airport to get sight of the runway.

Bit outdated now, Beave, you just gotta be amazed at the number of Airbuses at airports around the world, all doing a fantastic job. At LHR these days short haul 737s are vastly outnumbered by A320s ! Really looking forward to my next A380 flight, SYD-LHR next month, unbelievably quiet, inside and out !
More problems for Boeing, a 787 of ANA had serious gear problems, there is a picture of it flying with nose gear down (only) , eventually got all three down on the alternate system ! Hate to see a composite fuselage doing a wheels up, doubt it would do as well as the 767 !
..........and it will be interesting to find out why a SIA 777 went gardening at Munich last week !
Regards,
David.
And no I'm not knocking Boeing, far from it, they make wonderful aircraft, but so does Airbus !
