I got really tired after dinner so no pics sorry. Will post tonight when I get home and settled. The flap and aileron closeout goes in tonight along with the end sub ribs and then they are done other than sanding to final shape. I can then set the wing onto the fuse and build the inlets next. I want to get that done before the weekend so I can show both Nick's my progress at the Wram show.

Got back into the shop this week after picking up some four foot balsa sheeting at the WRAM Show. I cut the leading edges out of the 1/2 sheets 1.125 wide and bonded them on with West system epoxy thickend with Q cells to make a nice paste. Yesterday I plained off the excess back to the skins, man what a pile of shavings it made. Wished sometimes I had a way to use balsa shavings for something other than trash. Will post pictures tonight.

Routered out the tip area for a 1/4 ply rib that will support either a extended tip or tip tank depending on what we want on for the flights. Just put I the ribs with West systems 610 that I had left over. Nice thing is it doesn't need a 50$ gun to use it. It loads into a standard caulking gun and costs about the same as hysol but you get a lot more adhesive. I get it from jamestown distributors about 24$ for a 190 ml tube http://www.jamestowndistributors.com...t.do?pid=52008

Sanded the leading edges of the flaps after shaving a ton of balsa off them to get them rounded. Been trying for four days to post pictures. Hey RCU do you want users or not? Fix the posting issues please.

Joined up the inlet 1/32 plywood sheets tonight. I think I'll glass the bottom side after they are bonded to the fuse sides just to add some strength and stiffness since they are 25% wider but no thicker. I didn't want to go with 1/16th plywood and had a couple of nine inch wide sheets left over from skinning the wings. Pictures to follow in the morning.

I haven't noticed any weakness in that area on mine while handling it. Hopefully, yours won't be as heavy as mine.

Started the inlet fabrication tonight. First setting up the wing onto the foam core blank bottoms made things easier then when I built the std size one a few years ago. I marked out the edge of the inlet side and then bonded the 1/32 ply to the wing saddle area with medium CA lining it up to the marks. Then the outer sides with the balsa doubles were bonded to the plywood skin and lastly for the night the inlet bulkheads number 3 & 4 were bonded on with titebond and will dry overnight. Tomorrow the inlet top sheeting will go on and the rear former that closes out the rear.

K12RC, That's the goal. My buddy Steve Stricker is beating on me everyday to stay the course and not get side tracked. This build brings back memories of when we were building his TOC planes at night after work. I spoke to him today at work and he will be with us at FIF with his Bandit and F-4. Of course all of this was easier when I was single, and the boss at work.

Well I'm home today sitting out the last winter storm that has yet to really arrive in full force. I made good use of the time this morning in the shop finishing up fuse #1's inlets. Later on after a late lunch break I'll start fuse #2's inlets. Not really hard to do, but a little time consuming sanding the angle to math the fuse. Took about two hours from start to finish. The titebond is curing right now between the sheets before they can be finish sanded, I bonded them to the sides with medium CA so that went quick. The last picture is looking out the back door of my shop.

Flipped the two a fuses over and sanded the excess sheeting back to the plywood sides. I also trimmed off the 1/32 ply wing saddle flush with the inside walls. Letting the titebond dry over night where I bonded the 1/32 ply inlets to the fuse side of the bottom side. Will buildup the inlet bottoms tomorrow night. Hopefully by Sunday evening the wings and stabs will be mounted.

I hate winter, got sick again last week and had to take a break from building. Got back into the shop yesterday and routered out the retract pockets, and servo locations. The servos will be inset almost flush. I set the router at 1/2 inch deep and then cut 1/2 wide 1/4 ply plates for the servos to mount to. The sides are boxed in with 3/32 balsa on top of the ply plates and will have 3/16 end plates front and aft on top of the ply to make the pocket tie into the skins and fill the space. The foam blocks are in there just til the epoxy sets to hold the balsa spaced to fit the servos width.
Still waiting on Robart to ship the 635E mains and nose gears to Great Planes. If they are not in by Toledo I just might pick up a set there. I also cut off the second set of elevators from the second set of cores and added the balsa edging. Will sand flush in the AM. Getting closer, just have to get a time stretcher! Lol.

Well the servo pockets got finished before work yesterday and the wiring holes burned into the cores from the root ends last night. Nothing really to see with that part. Tonight I got the wing bolt locations drilled and taped and the now dual wing dowel locations drilled and a 3/16 wing pin doubler plate made and installed into both fuses for the front hold downs. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the bottom of the inlets to fuse area and the leading edge blending as well. I'm off to Orioles spring training next week and then to Toledo mid week with the gang. Hope I run into some of you there. I'll shoot some pictures and post them if possible from the show.

Jeff, there will not be a Ziroli booth this year. Nick may still come to visit but Jr. found it too expensive now to attend. The Internet may have finally caused Toledo to " Jump The Shark". The swap shop did years ago when they allowed vendors to sell there instead of just guys wanting to get rid of their collections and or estates. Maybe we will run into each other at Dave Platt's booth. It will be his last Toledo.

Ron, Sorry to here that Ziroli will not be there this year Every year there is less traditional manufactures there. Modelers are changing from building to putting ARFs and foamies together I will look for you at Dave Platt's booth. My first warbird was Dave Platt's Falk Wolf 190 D-9. I had it for 30 years.

Well after a long winter of head colds I broke down and bought a hepa filter for my shop vac. Man what a difference already. I spent most of the evening cleaning up all of the dust bunnies on the shelves and floor after sanding the planes. Just to finish up the evening I put a single layer of 5.7 oz carbon on the bias on stab top side joint since there is no spar between the two sides. I'll let that cure over night and install the stabs hopefully tomorrow. Then off to spring training with my buddy to see the Orioles for their last four games before they open at home, but will miss that due to attending Toledo.
