RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
Looks great, have a wonderful test flight with it and report with any changes needed, I don't think there will be any. I have lots of flights on my std size one this year and it has become my favorite plane. Stress free flights with no bounce landings are the normal routine. It will be interesting to see how the larger plane settles in the landing mode as I have a ton of flap and 15 degrees of crow on mine. Once agin great job and happy flying you beat all of the rest of us to first flight.

It flies!!!! Sorry, no video. Flew it twice today and it is a KEEPER!!
Thanks again Ron Stahl for coming up with the idea to blow it up 125% and Nick Ziroli for a great design and Bob Leserve for making it possible for us to get laser cut short kits.
Mine came in heavier than I thought it would. It weighs 43.8 pounds with full UAT. It took 4 pounds of weight to balance it (8 1/2" from behind wing leading edge). It lands just like Ron predicted it would, very slow....and nose high.
I have about 60 degrees of flaps and 10 or 12 degrees of crow. I/8 inch down elevator with full flaps.
Had way to much throw on all surfaces but had put expo on the dual rates. The expo settled it down. Second flight I reduced elevator and aileron throw and it was a ball
Taking it to Bomber Field tomorrow and hope to get some video of it.

Way to go Gary! Have many happy flights with it. When you get settled with it try the Bob Hover dirty roll on takeoff . Just get good speed pull the nose up and the gear at the same time and bury the ailerons it will complete the roll and be level when it ends with the gear up just like BH did on the F-86 when he did the demo flights.

I'm putting up our tree and the trains today and then finally getting back on the wings so we can get them in the air. I hope Robart starts shipping the electric 635 mains soon they have been on back order at GP for months the nose gears are in stock. I really want to have the gear as I build the cores up. Everyone have a safe and happy holiday season.

Bart the problem is neither is right with the dihedral angle. My std size one has the gear Nick supplies if you get them from him and they look bent all the time but are not. I more than likely will stay with the 90's since they will then work in other applications if needed down the road.

Ed you can contact Limey Bob at LDS and he can cut you the all wood semi kit. Nick Ziroli models has canopies for sale. We waited until Nicky said he could and would be able to make us canopies before we started the project.

Bart yes they are. I haven't checked in a few weeks on the availability of them due to some work and family issues. We had a busy spurt at work and a sudden death in my wife's family this past week. Funny thing I was going through my Byron kits and found that I bought an A-4 kit from a local modeler a few years ago and moving things around in the shop I saw the label on the box and he bought it from you years ago.

Ron,
WOW! That is another kit I wish I still had. Were not that local... I'm over here on the LEFT coast [&o].
One last question regarding the retracts, does the Electric Retract Control Unit come with those mains or is that a separate purchase?
Bart.

Bart it comes with the mains as a set. The nose gear comes just by itself. I got my TF GS FW-190 gear last week and they look very robust and easy to setup.

RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
Finally I got to work on the wings today. I drew out the gear plates locations and ribs for the foam wing version. See the photos attached below. I plan on capturing the plate under the 1/32 ply wing skins with a carbon patch between it and the skins as well. The ribs will have three 1/4 dowels inserted for extra shear resistance and the plate will have a 90 degree carbon angle between it and the rib as well for extra gluing surface. These will never pull out like my regular size ones did on the first few flights off grass until I beefed them up.

RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
Made some more progress today on the first side of the gear mounting parts. The end ribs are 1/4 ply, the plate I changed to 3/8 ply and sunk it 3/8 below the surface so the retract can get mounted onto a breakaway plate out of .090 carbon and be recessed below the wing surface. I took a look at my std size one and the Robart trunion sticks out by 1/4 as designed. I just hate retract parts sticking out, to me the whole reason for retracts is to get rid of drag not leave things hanging out but your don't have enough room in the std one to mount it deeper. One other change I made was to extend the ribs two inches forward to capture the 1.5 wing tube so that the gear ribs also tie the wing tube to the plywood skins for bending and landing loads. I got the tube and socket from TnT landing gear for those looking for tubes.
