RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
I remember well.
Ron's mom was as much a part of our flying club as any of it's founding members and alot more fun to be around. She barely stood five feet tall but was the last person you wanted to mess with. Always joking, I can't ever remember her in a bad mood. I grew up in a racing family and spent the majority of my childhood going to race tracks in Maryland, Virginia and Pennslyvania so I was used to family members supporting each other in sports. Ron's mom and dad were as much if not more supportive of his hobby as any family I've known. Ron lived on the west side of Baltimore, the best hobby shop was in southeast side of town, the club meetings were to the north and the field was thirty miles out in the country, but Ron's parents made sure he never missed an opportunity to participate. They truely were great people and I'm sure they would be very proud of thier's son's accomplishments.
I spent 11 years working for the same company as Ron, but the best times I remember were working side by side with him. We came into the UAV world at it's infancy and I'm very proud of the work we did. We even got to work with Maynard Hill and Nick Ziroli, not a bad way to make a living.

RE: Enlarged Zirioli Turbinator 125% size
Thanks for the nice comments Bob. My favorite picture of my Dad and I together is one that was taken at Kirk field just before he got really ill and had to go into the hospital. Lino Albi the then club photographer took it and presented it to me after my dad had passed away. It sits on my new work bench along with the one he took when I was just 17 years old and we had the " Rubber Band" get together at the local park flying free flight models. My dad never built planes, fishing was his thing. The older men in the back row are the guys who took me under their wings, encouraged me, taught me how to build, fly and tune engines. The second man on the right Danny Sheelds is who took me to Toledo that year and I have been going every year since. Sadly all but one are gone now; but the four of us in the front row all do or have worked in the aviation field for most of our adult lives. I'm now the same age as the guys in the back row when we took the picture 35 years ago.

No, thats Glen Kaglerise. He died not much after the picture was taken. He was always very ill and Danny found him dead one morning when they were going to a R/C swap meet somewhere.

Jimmy, I got us a set of Kavan brakes today from BTE. I saw a set at work today on another labs project and asked where they got them. Hobby lobby no longer lists them for sale and I remembered that Bruce sold them so I called and he answered with I have a few in stock so I bought a pair for the project.

Hooker53 are you going to put a 44 gold on your Turbinator? I have a 44 green but I'm not sure in will be enough for this one. It seems more suitable for a 54.

Hey Ron,
Does the Kavan set work on just the nose or are they the " Mains" set that Hobby Lobby used to sell. As slow as the std Turbinator lands, the " nose wheel only" one would probably well

hey HD. Not sure what I will put on this bird yet. The 44 is still a good sized jet. Can't believe all the parts to this kit. Ha. Ha. Bob does a great job on this. It will be the week-end before i can spread everything out and take a good look. Are you building one?? Ron, don't mean to hog your thread!!!! Ha.

Jimmy they are the nose brake version. I had the same idea with how slow the std size lands. I'll bet the big one lands even slower since it will have more drag with the same residual thrust.

Hooker that is a 44 size in the picture. I just need a canopy. The small one is an E-Turbinator from Laser Design with a JetCat P-20 on it. A real blast to fly.

I hung one sheet of the Turbinator plans on the only wall in my garage that's big enough. Tip of vertical fin will be 35" off the ground!
Balsa sticks and sheets should be here Monday.
Now I gotta finish this miniature F-15 so I can start on it.

Got the airfoil right to match the plans this morning; it's a ritz 2-12 for those of you that want to cut your own cores for foam wings. I'll be building the crutches tomorrow, worked all afternoon at GPA. Ordered the TM stuff from Horizion that plugs into the Rx and displays on any of the "I" stuff. I'm getting a IPad for the display that way Jimmy can see my voltage, airspeed and altitude while I'm flying. There will be no more flying without TM for me on the expensive stuff since my Electra crash at Hamburg this year.

Started building the crutches this morning. I have so much 1/16th sheet laying around that I striped it to the 5/8 width and laminated them up for the 5/16 x 5/8 x 54" stringers and the 1/8th x 5/8th cross pieces for the crutch truss structure. While waiting for the titebond to dry I added the first of the inlet doublers to the fuse sides. While the weather is still nice I'm going flying while everything is drying so I can get back on it later today.

Should have staid home and built all day today. While doing(as Jimmy would say "48 rolls" ) some practicing of rolling circles. The hatch blew off my Electric Tiger 60 and then the power battery came out some time after I stopped the rolling circle and made it back to the field. We looked for about 2 minutes and found the hatch. 2 hours later still no battery. I was breaking in the pack for my just finished Habu 32. Guess I'll go up next weekend and try looking again if the weather is nice but I'm done flying for the year.

I have both crutches built and drying overnight. Ziroli EDF Panther in the back of the shop, need to build the rudder and then its ready to finish. Thought the builders would like the last picture, I got it from Dave Platt at Toledo last year when I bought a Toucan and FW-190 kit to put into the rafters.

Ron, if your Panther is like mine, you're at about the 10% completion point right there!
Mine's glassed and has the first coat of sanding primer on it. Now to fill all (most) of the dents and dings and get the 2-part primer on it. Then we'll gear it up and fly it before final finishing - which may be next winter...

Bob, that's what I always tell people. When you think your 90% done there's 90% more to do. LOL. The Panther has been a long time coming but it really is closer than it looks the wings are done and the fuse is getting monocoted to keep it lite. I'm trying to have the Tubinator 125 ready for FIF this year but we'll see how the winter goes with work and Jans health issues. Jimmy will be coming over on Sunday mornings to help out now and then.

Ron' I will probably be up to the field sometime this week. Let me know where you think your battery fell and I'll try to find it. What color is it?
I often go walking at the field for exercise because it breaks the boredom looking for airplanes and parts, sort of lends a purpose if you know what I mean. Those hills can be a good workout.
