RE: black friday
I'm thinking about jumping into my first turbine so I've been doing some reading, asking a few questions, etc.
I thought "Black Friday" may just push me enough to go ahead and make my purchase, but I was wrong. Sorry but I just can't get excited about saving 5% on a $2,500. turbine. If I can spend $2,375. I can certainly spend $2,500.
I was even quoted on some servos, tubing, etc. and I would save a whole $26., my lhs under cut that by $90..... go figure.
I would even prefer to pay by cash, check or cashiers check to save the credit card fee.

Smart for keeping the credit card out of it, but I think your 2 lines above are related and contradict each other.

Yes it does seem to contradict... what I was trying to say is if the vendors offered a *cash price of 15% off* I would have jumped on it right away. The vendor would have saved the credit card fee so it doesn't hurt them as bad as it may seem.
Just my 2 cents...

Steve..... 15%?!?!
This is not a product range that vendors are making 40-60%. Most vendors are lucky to be clearing 15%.... With cc fees... Less.

RE: black friday
Todd,
You have much more inside information on turbine product cost than a consumer would, so I have no rebuttal to your post about profit margins.
I do however believe that package(s) could be put together, kind of like the big box stores that would reflect a much larger savings to the end consumer. Keep in mind we are talking about one weekend a year and maybe your manufactures need to support this effort as well.
(Another kind of ARF) A Retail Fact; if you can get a customer to shop with you once you have a much greater chance of having a repeat customer in the future. This is very true in my retail store and within my industry. You also have brand loyalty; say I were to buy brand X as my first turbine I would probably own another brand X at some point, of course this is providing the turbine operated properly.
Cheers,
Steve

RE: black friday
Steve,
This industry can not be compared to "big box" stores. The volume minuscule by any comparison, as is the margins. We strive to provide the best product, service and pricing Every day, not once a year!
Packages? Not sure I follow? What would we package together for extended savings? Every modeler has specific needs based on what he is building at the time. I am always open to feedback and suggestions.... Unfortunately, 15% is unrealistic.

Hey Todd,
Any word on the servo leads ? Something that may be possible is : items that sit on the shelf without much demand and has your $$ tied up in inventory , dump off at cost or cost plus a couple percent to get your initial investment back and frees up funds for future endeavors. Just a thought " a bird in hand is better than two sitting on the shelf that does not sell. In the end people get what they want the illusion of savings.

Like package A is brand X turbine with airframe and brand A servos, plastic fuel tank, retracts, tubing, batteries, etc.
Package B is brand Y or Z turbine with airframe and brand B or C servos, kevlar fuel tank, tubing and battery upgrade, etc.
You could make as many packages as there are product combinations, I think I would keep it at two or three....IMHO
There has to be better margins on some of this equipment.... tubing, servos, extentions, switches, etc.
BTW Todd, I'm going to give you a call first of the week with a few turbine newbie questions, I did receive your PM just before Thanksgiving but I found no time for a phone call being in retail myself.
Thx,
Steve

RE: black friday
Tim,
We already have a section for "Clearance Items"!
Steve, we are not really an "airframe" dealer. I got out of selling aircraft several years ago. We mainly focus on everything but airframes with the exception of a few EDF kits. This type of Combo discount does not apply to us. We do combo Pro-Link gear sets at "combo" pricing, we offer these deals 365 days a year.

RE: black friday
Only one place I can think of that could offer any such package of an airframe, radio gear, and turbine and that would be BVM.
