    RE: Yellow F22 Build

    speaking of tire wear...................
Here are mine after jets over kentucky. I have about 60 total flights on these. Most of the wear happens when the temp gets to 95 degrees outside and the runway gets crazy hot. The tires get real soft and flat spot like crazy.

    RE: Yellow F22 Build

Well taking the plane apart to do some small things I gave the pipe a real good inspection and found that I have a crack right behind the split in the middle where the small paice that covers the split wleds onto.

Yellow does not carry the thrust vectoring pipes anymore. So I am on my own trying to find a fix. I guess I could send it to Tam but would love to spend a little less. Anyone else have any options? I am going to take it to the airforce base near here with a friend and see if they might have something that can fix it.
so if anyone knows anyother way of fixing this let me know.

    RE: Yellow F22 Build

Got my new Pipe from Tam today!

All I can say is WOW money well spent. The old Pipe had many flaws. For one it had a sharp edge inside at the split.(thats where it cracked) Another problem was the thrust vectoring fit over the inside pipe so the double wall was cut short and did not get air from the main pipe to suck out cooling air through the double wall.

Tam made the entire pipe with smooth bends and made the pipe a little smaller so that the double wall can sit inside the thrust vectoring. He also made the double wall thicker at the back where it sits inside the nozzels. Very well done. Cant wait to get her out flying now!

I also added a small 8oz center tank to help with the flame outs. I guess I am just thorwing the plane around to much
Moved the UAT tank to the bottom of the fuselage also so its lower then the main tanks.

First pic is the crappy yellow pipe.
2nd pic is the rear of the new Tam pipe.

    Gunn,

Lots of guys seem to be doing just fine with the 'crappy' oneeven with bigger, hotter engines. Even the finest products fail from time to time.

Not sure if you meant me, Dave?

I have not quite added it up yet was hoping for price of kit/turbine. It has a jetcat titan SE, JR 1221, Smartfly battshare, Li MN batteries. All JR servos and oversized in the rudder too. Cockpit. PPG/omni all around.

    An early flight...

I listed it here today. Will see what happens. It is great but i don't get to fly it much since it needs a runway and not grass.

    RE: Yellow F22 Build

Good luck with the sell Dave. Thats a very good price with the engine!

I got to test out the new Tams Pipe! Worked great. Only problem I had was the plane was sticking to the runway. Checked the CG and it was to far fwd. The new lighter pipe combined with the small 8oz fuel tank just fwd of the main tanks shifted the CG to far fwd. It still flew great and got 6 flights on it back to back. Cant say enough good things about the plane!

One thing also to note. The Tams pipe was smaller in Dia so installing it was very easy. It can be installed with the bellmouth already on. This makes dealing with the thrust vectoring a breeze. But this pipe probably would not work for engines bigger then a 120 size. Not sure what you guys with the bigger engines should do when your pipe needs to be replaced. I am sure Tam can figure something out.

    Kris,
Great news that you're airborne again! You certainly don't let a flyable plane just sit around! [8D]
Looking fwd to seeing the video, and hopefully this plane in person next year.

Had a great time at Monster planes with the raptor! Did not have a single gear problem on the grass. I found using the thrust vectoring for taking off made them much smoother on the grass. Taking the raptor out this weekend for a scale contest. We will see how it goes.

Here is the Video Pat (Prichards) did from Kentucky.

Had a great time at the Scale event down here. I got a 2nd place finish in sportsman class. I learned allot and hope to do even better next time.

The judges are the same ones that do topgun so they know thier stuff. And the raptor scored a 90% on static. Was very happy with that. They pointed out that the nose gear door angle in the front is wrong. Never noticed that. Not sure if I will go through the trouble to fix it. I also got dinged on a few other small things but all in all its got a very scale outline. The feild was only 500 feet so I used thrust vectoring for takeoffs. Also the flying bounderies where pretty tight so was hard to get her opened up. But some one posted this video on youtube of my first flight at this feild.

    Kris,

The flight looked nice. Where was that scale event held? Thanks for the link on my F-22 flight. My knees were knock-en taken off from that grass field. I was expecting some kind of gear problem. The only problem I had was a broken inner gear door hinge. Have a great Thanksgiving all.............

    Cheers

Nice job Chris! Nothing like a good turbine jet that has been broken in and can be flown ten times in a single outing! Your confidence on this jet must be through the roof - that usually means the fun factor has truly arrived too. Great work

    RE: Yellow F22 Build

Sharing some info about what I am doing with regards to the tires/wheels for the YA F-22 as I approach my own build.

So far I keep reading 'Dubro' and 'Skylites' but apparently there is no such product as a 'Dubro Skylite'. There is a Superlite series but then it is a foam tire which will wear fast in my flying environment (coarse surface runway). Hence I need rubber tires.

With that, I settled with the Sullivan Skylite series. Whilst the Dubro equivalent tire is narrow on width, the Sullivan one is not. I was concerned that it will not fit the wheel well and foul the retracts and/or doors.

After much dremelling and a pile of rubberish foam bits on the floor, I managed to fit the tire onto the wheel hub. And to my delight the tire cleared the wheel well.
Getting the wheel centred during and post dremelling was really challenging to say the least. I decided to live with some wobble which I predict the runway will help 'sand' it uniform.

I really wished YA had rubber tires replacements as spares.

Awsome! What size tire did you order? I am about due for my 3rd set of tires already
BTW the foam ones would wear so fast that if you had a day in a cross wind then the tires where pretty much trash after that day. And whobbled bad. So even if yours is a little out of center it wont matter much.
