Yellow F22 Build

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Kris, I am using 2 3/4" for nose and 4 1/2" diameters for the mains, same as the originals. I am not yet done to the nose but based on real measurement the Sullivan nose wheel fits by a close 1-2mm each side of the axle fork. Real width of my nose wheel was measured to be 25mm, not 27mm as stated at Sullivan's website. Hope this helps you.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
I can now confirm that the Sullivan Skylite 2 3/4" wheel fits the YA F-22 nosewheel fork and hub as an alternative. I have performed the fit and there is no interference found.
Hope the info helps.

Cycross thnx for the help on the tires. I am going to order them before FLjets.
I had a gear up landing a few flights ago. From best I could tell the cold caused an airleak. So now its time to repaint the belly. Doing more research on the raptor their are a few panels that you can see the screws on. Most of the fasteners on the raptor are hidden but on these few panels you can see them easy. Pretty sure these are panels that need to come off often for maintenance. So I decided while I was repainting the belly I would add the screws for these panels. Their is only a couple panels on top that have them. I will probably wait until after FLjets to repaint the top.
Here is a pic of the real one and what I got done so far.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
im flying mine with regular ailerons and normal elevators no mixing. Thrust vectoring on an on/off switch also but I like to have the thrust vectoring on for takeoff and landing. I was thinking about mixing with tailerons but it flies so good now I am not going to mess with it.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Hello Ken.
For CG I found what yellow recommends in the manual is perfect. No need to change it. I also pretty much used the same throws. I have not tried the taileron method so cant help you their. I like doing 4 point rolls and was thinking the tailerons might make it harder. It already took almost 30 flights just to get the roll coupling dialed in for decent knife edge. The plane still does not like knife edge but it can be done. If you crank to hard on the rudders on the F22 it will do a violent snap roll so be carefull on rudder throw.
This plane has great aileron authority as is and no need for tailerons. The JetLegend F22 needs tailerons because it does not have good aileron athourity.
George you got any pics of your F22?
Cant wait to see it at FLjets! Should have 3 yellows and at least one JL F22 thier. I will be thier on wednesday on till saturday so if you need anyhelp setting it up let me know. I have around 100 flights on mine now so its pretty dialed in now.
I have decided to paint the entire plane now while I am fixing the belly. While the paint on top was ok the clear coat I had on it was to dull. So she is in for a complete make over now

RE: Yellow F22 Build
If I recalled it correctly Kris you were rushing this plane's build for FLjets as well then. This event is pretty significant in coincidence.
Sorry to hear about the belly landing, I suppose you will be ordering new decals as well if you are going to do the whole plane now?
I'll be using the Airpower EVO unit on mine for pneumatic control and leak failsafe.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Ralle from Tailormade sent me an extra set when I got the drytransfers so I will use those. I only need to small ones for a complete set. The top really does not need the paint but I got dinged in a scale contest because my camo matches the wrong S/N raptor. Its botherd me ever since . when I painted it I just used lots of raptor pics. I didnt go off the specific serial number aircraft.
How is your build going? Start it yet?
Shaun is this next Raptor going to be yours?

Gunn,
Yep, the next one will be mine. I still can't believe how well she flies. I regret not taking more time and enjoying the three flights I got on the one I built two years ago.

Hey US1A kai when I was stationed at Yokota AB I flew FAI Pattern with a guy named Ken Hirose (SP?) do you know him? Long shot as Yokohama was a drive from the Tokyo area, but he was pretty well known and worked for Futaba.
Nice F-22 Gunradd! I am also joining the turbine ranks after a lot of Electra flights. CARF Hawk tho. Wouldn't mind a Yellow F-22 one day!

ok Ken here is the info. On the CG make sure you measure from the correct spot. You can see in my pic where it should end up.
On the throws. Well I fly high rates all the time. I don't use rates on any of my planes. Just the way I fly I guess.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Kris, starts and stops here and there.
BTW, if you are going to do those rivet markings, that black panel 'grill' is actually not a grill on the real plane, it's just a static pitot port. You may want to correct that as well along the way. Attaching 2 photos on it.
I am not too confident on how the nose wheel steering pull-pull linkage is supposed to be on the YA. Can you share me a picture of how you do it for that area for reference please? I am really bad at those bends, my planes all track like a eel on the runway...
