RE: Yellow F22 Build
When I get home I will try and grab a pic. Its kinda weird how its set up. You need to bend the steering pins on the nose gear for it to retract without breaking the wires.
Here is a very helpful thread on the nose steering. It has the exact way to bend the pins.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_70.../anchor/tm.htm
The plane tracts very straight and true so its not to critical on this plane. I dont even have my steering on rates for this plane. On my old F16 I had to have taxi steering and takeoff steering. But on the raptor no need for it.
Thanks for the pics of the static port. I will be filling it in now lol.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Along with the painting I decided to add some more detail to the cockpit. The HUD that comes with the kit is not even close to scale. So I scratch built a new one. I also built a new support piece that goes behind the cockpit that looks like it helps support the ejection seat rails. Now with that done I will need to redo the entire actuator motor and actuator cylinder for the canopy. Again the ones that comes with the kit are far from being right so I will do my best to fix that.
I also ordered the new tires. I will make a jig sometime this week to hold them so I can drill out the insides. Will try and use a drill press with a hole saw. Really wish yellow would make proper tires for this bird. I have gone through 3 sets of tires already so I hope these skylites last a little longer.

I suggest using a 2inch(~51mm) hole saw for the mains. Much less material to remove thereafter to get a fit while remaining concentric enough to minimize wobble. Can't recall what was the size for the nose.
What special round tape you are referring to, are they available online? I believe you meant the airbrushing tape.

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Thnx for the size on the hole saw. That's what I am going to use.
I used the round foam tape called soft edge tape. It was pretty expensive but well worth it. Just got done shooting the camo and it came out great. Very happy now I decided to repaint the plane. Now I need to paint in the details like the vents and also the air refuel markings. I hope to be shooting clear on it this weekend so I can get going on the markings and weathering.
Not really sure on what clear I am going to use this time. The last clear killed the metallic paint look. So need to figure something else out. It was nice and flat but I think a little to flat.
And yes the camo matches the S/N plane I have the markings for..... Its much harder to copy a camo job.

Thnx Sean
More progress with the paint work! Its going very well. Got most of the light gray details done tonight. Next I need to get the vents done and the brown area just in front of the exhaust nozzels. I hope to clear it with gloss clear this weekend then apply the dry transfers and weathering. I am not sure on the clear coat I am going to use when done. I want a satin finish so need to find a good clear. Open for suggestions

Got the clear coat on the top and weathered it. Now I need to wait 3 days before I clear the weathering in. I will get the markings on the belly now while waiting for the top weathering to dry. I used oil paints for weathering. I went for a very light weathering look so removed almost all that I put on.
John thanks for the clear info. I ended up using some stuff from the local auto parts store. It was gloss clear coat but I pumped the pressure up on the gun and put light coats on it so it ended up satin like I wanted.

MAIDEN FLIGHT REPORT
Got my F22 up in the air Sunday at Texas motor speedway, totally uneventful. CG was set at 6.5" where the wing panel joins the fuselage. The Jet Central rhino ran flawless and provided tons of power unlimited vertical available on a full load of fuel.
The airplane is very stable and light feeling, feels more like a sport jet than scale jet. I didnt play with the thrust vectoring to much but you could definatley feel the difference. I flew with both tailerons and conventional ailerons and elevator flew fine either way just corkscrewed alot
in the rolls with tailerons. All throws were set as instructed i just removed about 10% of the elevator throw as she was just a bit pitch sensitive especially in the turns, you just breathed on the elevator and it would pull it around quickly. I may try a bit more expo to help. I was really
surprised by the speed of this jet I suppose from the very small frontal area, Its probably one of the fastest scale jets Ive personally seen.
Great flying jet a total puppy dog. Enjoy some fantastic pics from Smitty.

Nice pics! Congrats on the good maiden.
Its a great flying plane. I wish I had your engine in mine!!
Would love to see some video next time you take it out. Mine is all done and ready to fly. I still have not installed the new tires. Might do it this week.
Its like a sport plane until you take it knife edge and apply rudder lol. It will take you many flights to get it even close to trimmed out on knife edge with all the coupling. Also if you didn't read it already don't give it to much rudder or it will do a crazy snap.

Dieselman1220, your plane's beautiful. Congrats on the maiden.
Yours looked like an ARF version. I always wonder why YA did not continue to produce ARFs for the F-22, I think they are still much desired. Likewise for the F-15 ARF.

Less then a week to go for FLjets and she is all done. Still waiting on the little danger signs that go under the cockpit. Hoping they will arrive soon. She is all clear coated now and ready for flight again. I will fly it on Sunday just to break her in again then its time to burn some serious fuel next week!

RE: Yellow F22 Build
Florida jets was great!!
But I was stuck with flame out problems. I had 4 flameouts total. It was found to be a problem with me UAT. I replaced it at the field and continued to fly. I also had a chance to try out a bigger engine (kingtech 180). It was flat out insane what I could do with that engine. Unfortunately I cant afford a new motor at the moment but I will have a big block in this plane very soon. With the bigger motor I could takeoff and go straight vertical and really ring it out. Even with the 180 I was still full throttle flying most of the time. Barry said I fly it like an ultra flash lol. The thrust vectoring with the extra thrust was also crazy.
I froze my butt off changing the engines out Thursday night but I had it back flying on Friday. Also got to fly with Mike's F22 and Barrys JLF22. The 3 of us had some fun. Mike had a dead stick in a very bad spot with full flaps and gear down at the end of the runway. He got it down in time only to find out their was a ditch he didn't see in the grass. But this did not get him down. He already put another one on order and will be building it soon.
George came with his yellow F22 and I had the pleasure of putting the first flight on it with his new K180. He then flew it later very smooth and great flying.
All in all I had a great time.

Here is a few pics from Flroida jets.
I also have a photo I found on my facebook of 4 very well built yellow F22s in Taiwan.
I am currently saving up for a bigger engine and thinking about installing a operating canopy. Would love to hear some ideas on how to hinge it and actuate it. I guess a UP3 vavle would work. But still looking for other options.

Its true a scale plane is never finished......
I finally got around to removing the nose gear doors and reshaped the front of them to have the proper scale shape. I glassed carbon and added to the front of the gear doors so they have the correct angle now. Next I am adding detail to the inside of the main inner gear doors. They stick out like a sour thumb on this aircraft and really could use some detail.
I am still trying to save $$ for new engine so no flying right now.
Also got an invite to Topgun this year!!! So I need to get a motor in this plane quick.
I will show the progress on the inner gear doors soon.
