Time for some F22 updates. I am adding new nav lights along with landing lights and dual afterburner lights from dreamworks. Was fun trying to figure out how to keep it from melting yet still make it work with the vectoring. I hope what I did works.

All lights installed. I installed a landing light 2 after burner rings 4 nav lights (top and bottom of wing) and a light for the HUD. I also installed the eagle tree guardian 3 axis gyro and I programmed it for the DX18 I have now. I hope to get out and fly it this weekend to get her all dialed in for Florida jets

Shaun,
Any chance Yellow will ever get any more of these kits? What about starting a list for guys who want one and when the next container sails there could be some on it?

Got to fly this last weekend and the lights where a big hit. Also I am now spoiled with the 3 axis gyro. I cant believe I waited this long to use one. For $75 bucks the eagle tree guardian is golden! I cant imagine flying without it now. So if you are on the fence about getting a gyro for your plane get off the fence and get one!!

I also moved the CG back about 1/4 inch and I really like it.

Gunradd, its the first time ive looked at the eagle tree system after seeing your post.
Are you using all 3 axis's on your raptor?
How do you connect to multiple servos ie a plane with two ailerons, two elevators and two rudders?
Also would it work on a eurosport with elevons?

EDF yes I have another installed on a F16 with tailerons and it works fine like that.

For the multiple servos.... What I did was only used the orange wire through the eagle tree system and used a port not used on my receiver for power wired directly to the servos and bypassed the gyro all together for the power on the elevators and rudders. The ailerons are on separate ports with the aileron port and aux port for the other aileron so I still have crow programmed in it. So yes all 3 axis on it is being used. I have the gain mixed with my flap switch so when I deploy flaps the gyro gain increases for the lower speed.

Another way you can do it is to use Ys on the elevators and rudders and simply just add another power input on one of the servo connections going out of the eagle tree.

I also tried the 2D mode where the plane will recover and fly it self flat and level. It worked great. I tried it inverted in a steep climb hit the switch and faster then I could recover the plane my self the eagle tree system put the plane in flat and level flight in about 2 seconds lol. I dont plan on using that but at times the raptor can be hard to see and I just might need that auto pilot function someday so its good to have.

After Florida jets been doing more cockpit work. I found a smaller pilot at FLjets from BVM and he looks allot better in the cockpit. I also split him open and installed a small servo inside him to move his head. It came out great! still need to add a few smaller details like the pilots O2 mask hose needs the aircraft side hooked up.

Loaded a short video of the cockpit.

Here is a pic of the stock cockpit from yellow....

Here is what I have done with my cockpit

Gunny, you are doing a fabulous job with the F22. The cockpit looks great as well as the nav and landing lights. My only dislike is the round afterburner lighting. The F22 nozzle, as you obviously know is not round but square (ish). Hence the name "Square Nozzle". Is it possible to bend the light ring into a "square shape? No offence intended here. I am a retired engineer from Pratt & Whitney and did a lot of work on the F22 Exhaust Nozzle so I tend to be a stickler about the details relating to the nozzle. I've seen in flight photos of F22 nozzles with the round AB lights and it looks wrong. Since you are obviously into the details, please be the first kid on your block with square AB lights.

I would love to have square AB lights and even asked if they could be made that way but at the time I could not get it square . It would have been much easier to install them is they where square. Putting the round ones on a square thrust vectoring nozzle was a challenge. Sometime down the road I will look into it thanks John. When its flying though you cant tell what shape it is. You just see a bright orange glow. Only in the pics can you see its round. But I agree with you square would be better.

Very nice Kris! The lights really show up well, especially the nose landing light on approach. Cool stuff.

I know the last post on this thread was over 5 years ago, but I was hoping to get some opinions from you guys as I just acquired a kit of this F-22 (Kris, I got the one you sold to Spencer here in Phoenix) and I just recently moved up into turbines from large EDFs. My plan is to put a K180G2 in it, but I want your opinion on the servos I've picked out. I was thinking HS-5565MH for ailerons and nose steering, and HS-5585MH for rudders, flaps and elevators. Will I be good with these?

I've read through this and other threads here on this kit, and I have been making lots of notes on things to do to this during the build. Fortunately I have the Tams VT pipe and not the stock pipe. It also came with some Sullivan Skylite wheels, but I think I will use the stock wheels first until they start to wear (I fly off an 800' paved runway, so it shouldn't take long ). On the Sullivans he got 4.5" for the mains, and 3.5" for the nose, but I think I need a 2.75" for the nose, correct?

Looking forward to the build. Just got it on Saturday, so nothing has been started yet. I want to get the turbine and servos/parts ordered before digging into it.

The stock tires are not bad, I’m pushing 150 flights with mine and they are just now getting to the point where they could use replacing. I have however always been conscious of them. I keep my brakes lubed and avoid using them at high speeds. Repeated flat spotting will kill them very quickly.

Thanks for the advice on the tires!

By the way, I plan to order the aluminum arms for the servos and will not use the supplied nylon ones

And anything that gets glued in will be with Hysol.

Pat, with regards to replacement tire diameters, refer to my earlier post #301. Yes nose wheel is 2.75inch.

If any, on those wing control surface horns, I will think to replace them too with carbon horns or similar. The supplied plastic ones I suspect will have aged and deteriorated by now even if not used. It's a potential point of failure.

Then don't forget to reinforce the rudders at the hinges, probably replacing or adding ply to where those robart hinges bite on.

DO NOT USE SUPPLIED HORNS! I built one and had severe rudder flutter. I test flew another and had the same issue Both survived but had significant damage that required total rebuild of vertical stabs. This is a magnificant flying airplane.Enjoy.

Carbon horns all around and reinforcing the rudder hinge points (and using beefier rudder servos) already on the list of mods.

Messing with the landing gear right now getting some white paint on. Should I replace those soft springs, or are they OK? I think I read at least one post where someone replaced the springs.

The stock tires will melt on a hot summer day on blacktop. It’s not from braking it’s from heat and they are foam crap.

the skylights worked fantastic but you need a hole saw to cut the inside to the correct diameter.

think I used some pieces of rubber inside the strut to help the spring.

I may try the rubber in the springs trick. Thanks.

I'll use the stock tires for now, and switch over to the SkyLites when necessary. I will probably only be flying this during the fall, winter and spring months here as it's too hot to fly in the summer.

First thing I did was pull out the gear and started painting them. Got one main done and working on the other main and the nose. Family yesterday and packing for a trip to an event this weekend has made progress slow.
