Yes...it's already primed. Wings and stabs are composite, all structural formers are installed, You could have it flying in the raw in 2 weeks. I spent more time painting mine than anything else.

Thanks Tom thats good news.

What links did you use? I saw some are using the ones from hanger 9. Will 4-40 rods with carbon on the outside be enough or should I just get the hanger 9 ones. If I new the size I would get the hanger 9 ones.

For paint, I purchased a can of black and a can of white and then mixed them to make three gray shades. I made the light gray to match the dry transfres I got from Aeroloft. I guess this is sort of working backwards ..... but since I was not really after an exact scale paint scheme it worked out.

Bob that paint came out great!

When I get to that point these are the directions I got on how to get the best results for raptor paint. I will give it a try and hope for the best.

The Raptor has a unique paint finish and here's one way of getting close. The primary colors of a Raptor are two shades of silver for the body and Navy Aggressor Grey (36251) for the edges. The lighter silver is a mixture of 4 parts Testor's MM Aluminum to 1 part Graphite Metallic (Testor's MM car color). The darker silver is 3 parts Graphite Metallic to 1 part Aluminum.

First paint all the edges of the jet. After several days of drying mask them off.

Painting the body of the jet. After mixing the colors noted above spray the light silver. Keep shaking the jar to keep the colors mixed. Two coats of normally thinned paint to give a rich color. Immediately after the second coat is dry to the touch start spraying the dark silver. This paint should be thinned more than the light silver. Apply as a thin coat that is translucent. You do not want to cover over the light silver entirely. Take you time. Rotate and tilt the model to see the change in intensity of the color. Remember you can add but not take away! Keep shaking the jar. As you spray the thinner in the dark silver re-melts the light silver coat and causes the two to blend better. Once you are satisfied set the model away to dry thoroughly for a few days.

Take about 1/16 ounce or there about of Testor's MM Acrylic Gloss Clearcoat and add 5 or so drops of Testor's MM acrylic 35237 Navy Blue Grey to tint. Thin as you would normally and apply several light coats. This gives the jet some color. Let dry for a few days.

Apply your decals and remove the mask from the edges.

Finally, apply several coats of your favorite flat finish. I used Testor's Dullcoat.

Well still waiting on the airframe.................
Its running late but should be here soon.

In the mean time I orderd all the H9 prolinks I needed along with most of the other little bits.
I got the prolink sizes from the other thread.
Elevators: 1.5"
Rudders: 2.5"
Ailerons: 2.5"
Flaps: 3"

Question. For the fuel tank clunk line did you guys use the clear stuff BVM sells or use tygon fuel line for the clunk? I want to get the tanks all plumbed while I wait for the airframe.

I tried couple of different ways to replicate raptors unique sheen, everything from metal to pearlsheen paints and different mixes.

Finally I went to paint shop that sells car paints and asked them to do a mixture that had 95% aggressor gray and 5% white pearlsheen paste.

I used this as base coat to whole fuselage and it finally gave look that I was after. Paint job looks almost flat when its in shadows or indoors but when sun hits it, pearlsheen paste really makes a nice sheen. I made similar mixture with tactical camo gray and ghost gray areas (around wings, intakes, nose etc) I painted with flat ghost gray.

The flat coat makes the raptor sheen effect to come alive in pics. When edges are always same shade of ghost grey, wings and fuselage look darker than edges from some angles and from some angles it looks that fuselage is lighter colour than ghost gray areas because of the sheen.

Kanji you have more detail on your scratch build then the yellow F22 has! I have been following your build on the other site. I really wanted one but could not wait. I hope you get her in the air soon.

Fuel tank question. did you guys use tygon for the clunk line or the clear fuel line stuff?

Well I wanted to try out the paint method wait on the airframe. So I painted the tail cones.

When they installed the thrust vector hinges it looks like the glue got hot and warped the glass on the nozzels. So I had some filling and sanding to do first. Then I painted the base dull color taped it off and painted the metalic color. Very happy how it came out! After some weathering and a dull clear coat it will look very good. I had to try twice with the metalic paint because I had a problem with the paint gun but the second try went perfect.

Kris, that turned out really well. Can't wait for you to get the airframe and hear your thoughts.
Hope you didn't get any overspray on the chopper.

Well now the wait is until the end of January! Not very happy. Been waiting since November for this airframe. Was told December, Then ,late December, then Early January, now its late January!

That will leave me 3 weeks to build it and test fly it if I want to make Florida jets this year with it. I guess its just not going to happen.

That stinks! What's worse is that you are getting the update because you're asking and they arent being proactive in advising in advance of delays that will cause them to miss their commitment date. Or better yet advising of a corrective plan of action to recover from the delay.

Gunradd, You can build the kit in 1 1/2 weeks, it's so simple. The wings are basically done when you get them out of the box. There are only a couple of formers to install. Plan on doing several things at once, such as working on the wings while the intakes setup etc. The most difficult things are the gear doors, the V/T package, and installing the intakes. Use a quick setting Hysol and you are still in the running. Dont give up, it WILL be worth the wait! I havent forgotten the H9 measurements for you (at least not today). I will have mine out today doing some work and will get the info to you.

Thanks Sean and Tom

Tom I got the H9 rods already. They are ready to install. The old thread had the measurments.

I am happy to say I am fedexing a check today to a fellow RCU member that has one in the box that hes not ready to build yet. So I hope late next week to have the F22 here so I can get cranking on it!

We have some very good people in this hobby and I have found more so in the jet world. I cant say enough good words about the people here.

Great news! It's certainly can be a 'community' with the right people doing the right thing to promote our hobby. Can't wait to see you get the kit and watch this thread (and your new F-22) really take off!
