YA Stingray questions
I am building a YA Stingray and have some questions.
For the wing tips I was thinking I just have to do something other than just square or round them off.
1. One option is to make them sweep up similar to the wingtips on the AD Scorpion. Does anyone have any idea if this will cause any flight issues with the fact that it is a flying wing?
2. Another option would putting on tip tanks or tip missiles. Any effect on flight performance?
Any other ideas to dress up the wing tips.
Weight is a concern since my target weight is 10lbs.
I am also open for any ideas to cut weight.
I will not glass and paint the wings, they will be Monokote, I do NOT know how to paint lightweight. A call to YA has assured me that the glass on the wings in not needed for strength and Monokote will be lighter, and the plane flies best if you can keep the weight down.
I have been told by many that this a very nose heavy aircraft so anything added to the wing tips will be behind the CG and will help with getting the CG correct.

RE: YA Stingray questions
Ron,
I'm guessing you never saw my Stingray....
Jeff,
What's your powerplant? Is this EDF or turbine? With respect, I would disagree with some of the advice you've been given on this bird. If you like monokoting instead of glassing, then it's a good idea. If you're doing it just to save weight, the difference in weight between a monokote job (on a plane with this wing area) and a good, light glass job isn't enough to justify the bubbles IMO. I once did an experiment on weight differences between glass and covering on an old Modeltech Stik 40, and the .75-ounce glass and paint was less than two ounces heavier than the monokote. I don't think you'll have any issues with tip embellishments on this wing other than taking a few MPH off of the top end.

Your guess is correct. Got pics?
It will be turbine, If I can keep it light enough, I want to use a Wren 44 gold
I have tried glass and paint on other birds and for me it comes out weighing a ton. I have been using monokote since it was invented and have learned to cover without wrinkles or bubbles.
I think I am leaning toward the up swept tips, I am not going to do a military looking color scheme. But still open to Ideas.

RE: YA Stingray questions
Hi,
Let me see if I can find some. I don't think you'll have any problem with tips or winglets. The Wren 44 will be fine, too. I've seen them fly with those and they flew great.
