Hello Lightning Experts.

so, I really am planning on finishing my Lightning with UL wings/stab and as I muck about the interior-i have the following wood bits and I really dont see what they are for. I know, that's scary!

any help please??

crud...i guess that the cool post it notes in the files didnt transfer from the PDF to the jpg...

pic 1 item 1 is the curved thing in the middle

Item 2 is the lower right curved thing with a hole in the middle
Item 3 are the lower middle two rectangles and two rectangles with the corner cut off
Item 4 is the lower left slotted rectangle with 4 holes/slots plus that big slot in the center
Item 5 upper left two rectangles with slots in them

pic 2 not sure where this goes.....on top of smoke tank?
Pic 3 what they heck are any of these?? and the notched/tabbed piece on the right end of the entire laser cut piece
pic 4 i was expecting that you needed to glue down the bulkheads that this board attaches to then screw down the board. if you do this then you cannot slide in the smoke tank below the intakes, it would have to go above. probably ok as i was not planning on using the smoke tank anyhow.

any help is greatly appreciated.

I've never built a Lightning but Item 4 looks like the fuel pump mount.

From memory so I coudl be wrong but here goes -
item 1 no idea
item 2 - I think its a former designed to glued into the fuz near the nose gear door to mount the nose gear ram too. Not used in UL
item 3 - I think they are formers to be glued onto the inner part of the wing or tail to act as reinforcements for self tappers to servo covers/hatches on
item 4 - fuel pump mount
item 5 - meant to be glued onto the bottom of the canopy lip so that the paxlin hooks on the bottom of the canopy rely on these and not just the moulding lip.

picture 2 - mean to be laid on top of the wooden ridge over the top of the smoke tank.
picture 3 - no idea what the curved parts are but the right hand part with the tabs is a former that is glued onto the bottom of the fuz to act as a plate to mount the wooden plate to that is in the last picture.

I just completed my UL.

This fits into the nose section to mount batteries or air tanks. There is a support former that mounts on the square end. Will match the slots.

I'm sorry, my nose is already installed, so no pic. That piece fits my UL nose perfectly, I can't say for sure re: the classic.

What David is saying is that the piece I circled gets glued vertically into the nose and the notched trayfits in. However, Idonot know if CARF meant for this to be glued in the nose cone or the forward part of the fuselage. I ended up just gluing squares with a blind nut sandwiched between the layers into the fuselage. This way any weight on the tray is not stressing the nose cone. Just two bolts and the whole tray comes is out.

Regarding the other wood parts, some arefromthe classiclightning and others I have no clue where they go. The outdated manual does not explain things fully. It still shows the original BVM door cylinders.
