I think the Hawk Union Jack scheme may suite this well, and it would be nice to see something other than a US navy scheme on a sport jet.

The schemes shown remind me of what some body once said to me that if beauty is only skin deep you must be inside out............ I am not sure that it was a compliment

Kind Regards, Craig.

RE: GRYPHON - build thread (sports/trainer 2m composite jet)
Being a non-jet guy I just stumbled in here from the RCU Heartbeat page. I was examining the pics, admiring the craftsmanship, until I hit this one…
I think I winced so hard I had an aneurism!? [X(] But by the time I the fog of my mini-stroke had subsided the OP had already determined that future customers were less than thrilled with the paint, provided some options, asked for suggestions and provided a template for their input. That is impressive!
Even more impressive is this all took place with good nature and no one’s feelings getting hurt (other than a little Boomerang detour).
Sharp plane! I think a Union Jack is a must, then maybe pander to markets with Tricolore, Old Glory schemes, etc.

One of those on the way too, cheers for the feedback....
Any design ideas out there?
If you dont have time to draw it, post a picture of something along the same lines as you like - I can always to a 'version' of it.....

OK the build is on......
First up are the control surfaces, all require hinging and its probably the most time consuming part of the build so decided to make a start here.
The control surfaces are all fully moulded with curved front edges, these have holes already made along the length and directly below each hole in the moulding is a pilot hole in the airex/glass cloth sandwiched former which sits on the hinge line. I opted to make nice large openings for the hinges so fitting them was easy rather than fiddly, also the cut-outs for the hinge rotation is almost invisible when the surface is at neutral. I cut each slot 10mm wide using my small milling machine and some guide marks using masking tape.
Hinges are Robart pin types, and on inspection it seemed that a portion of the hinge would be proud from the mounting surface in the wing trailing edge section so I have experimented with some Graupner flap hinges which have an 'extension' section just by the hinge pin which I hope will provide the required stiffening support for the pin side which glues into the wing - with luck it will work out.
First few pictures of the hinge locations, cut-outs in the aileron and flaps, hinge types with the slight modification made to remove lugs from the hinge shaft and hinges glued into two control surfaces.
I will be looking to use 'economical' components for the build and will keep a running total so the end result will also give a spend for fitting out the airframe.

Interesting, all the Graupner pin hinges I have come with two hinge points and are grey rather than the single hinge point white one's shown in your pic, have Graupner changed the product?

They've been white since I first saw [link=https://shop.graupner.de/webuerp/servlet/AI?ARTN=3360]them[/link], granted not long in the grand scheme of things.

As mentioned a few post ago I will post ongoing costs for the build to as to arrive after completion at a final figure which shows a realistic build cost.
Parts:
Graupner hinge pins 3 x 10 pin packs @ £8.99 - £26.97
Running total £26.97

I have never seen the white ones before, must be a new product, always seem to find these at my local model shops: https://shop.graupner.de/webuerp/servlet/AI?ARTN=128.47 in various dia.
