Marc,

I will go weigh the wings right now and edit this post. They are completely done and flight ready so I don't want to take them back apart, but if I give you a total weight, you'll be very close.

Ok, my wings weigh exactly 3 lbs each. Hope this helps.

It seems the Gryphon is turning out tail heavy for everyone, so good call marc on the light tail pipe, it will be interesting to see how yours turns out, quick question where is the turbine located in relation to the C of G? I am just wondering if a lightweight turbine would help a bit as well.

Mike, should that not be 'tail heavy'?

I'm fitting a B100F which is heavier I am sure than say a VT80, I'll post some info on the position in relation to CG point later.

Yep your right, I put it down to the fact its -15C at the moment and the loo water is frozen, stuck in France, can't get out of the driveway.

Modified my previous post so I don't look a complete plonker.

Following making up of the Dubro filler bung, a job I dont enjoy as I find the whole system fiddly and not very satisfactory, especially when you try to feed a bent vent pipe in through a small hole - impossible! Nonetheless managed to get some form of arrangement sorted so in it went, tightened up the bolt and tested the tank under water - bubbles [] - not the tank itself but the pre-fitted aluminium filler ring.

It was nice to fit this at the factory but unfortunately it was done badly, so off it came (heat it up with a small blow torch just to a point when the glue softens) - on removal it had not been keyed so I was kinda glad it leaked as it would have let go even if it had not leaked at some point when you least wanted it to. I re-fitted one I had and used Aeropoxy.

While the fitting was off I also decided to add a vent pipe so the Dubro bung only had one line to the tank clunk - much easier

In light of the tail heavy tendency I opted to not run the bypass, I removed around 4cm of ducting from in front of the turbine area so as to get the turbine closer to the balance point, this required an adjustment to the mounting plates for the turbine which I made from some pieces of carbon plate, the B100F turbine is now about 19cm to its central point away from the 200mm CG location (hopefully along with a lighter pipe it should reduce the nose weight needed to balance).

Offered up the pipe and carbon bell-mouth and made sure all the distances were as per manufacturers requirements.

Wiring all routed back to the Rx area, Powerbox dual battery switch was mounted on a small ply plate, sprayed black and glued to the underside of the cockpit lip.

Hope to get some balance testing done soon to see what is needed, then I can order the 2 x Rx packs, 1 x ECU pack and 1 x gear/brake pack - not sure on the format yet, but suspect if I need weight some A123's or similar might be better than LifePo etc.

Crikey. RedWings go from one end of the scale to the other don't they! Much prefer that one Marc. Would be good base to put a little more vinyl on to finish it off.

p.s. Thanks for your help yesterday

Hi Marc,

We are building the same jet over here in Turkey. Do you have any control throw and exponential etc. recommendations for Gryphon?

Thanks

I received my Kit yesturday. The box is huge but suprisingly very light. So light in fact I wondered if there was a complete kit inside! Opened up the box and carefully un-wrapped all the parts and pleased to say that everything was intact and no damage. The quality of this kit has to be seen to be believed, its way out there.Absolutely top notch 100%! Its also very very light for its size, but robust at the same time.I`m pretty fussy when it comes to qaulity, but this kit has exceeded my initial expectations. If it flys as good as it looks, will be a winner!

Mark, Mike, and all,

We had a VERY successful maiden day today. Three perfect flights, three perfect landings. She took 30oz. lead in the nose to balance (initially)!!............but buy the end of the third flight I had removed 12 of those, and i'm not done! Next wknd., we will continue removing lead until we reach the sweet spot. Test flight C/G was set at 185, center of the window with the small CAT full and the main tank empty, and gear down. She is safe at 185 but took an uncomfortable amount of down elv. in the inverted, and was tucking in in the turns. I did'nt get a chance at the field to re-measure where we're at currently, but 12oz lighter made her much better all around.

As the flights continue, I'll keep reporting the progress, but she has GREAT potintial, and Mike Lin and I are thrilled with what we have so far............
