GRYPHON - build thread (sports/trainer 2m composite jet)
Arrived today is my demo kit of the new Gryphon jet trainer from Redwings in Italy.
For those who know nothing about this new product its essentially an all composite sport jet, which is also suitable as a jet trainer, brightly coloured to make sure its easily seen for orientation etc.
Specs:
Span 2000mm
Length 2050mm
Turbine 16-22lb
AUW approx 9KG (19.8lb) depending on set up.
The kit is highly pre-fabricated, ducting all fitted, canopy all assembled with latch and alignment tabs, 2.5L kevlar fuel tank with fitting to accept a Dubro style stopper, wheel cut outs etc. A stainless twin walled pipe, carbon full bypass and bellmouth are also supplied.
The builder will need to hinge control surfaces, fit equipment, retracts etc.
I understand a 'budget' retract system from Eurokit will fit, details of which will follow, however you can also fit other retract products subject to fitting in the space provided.
I will post more as I work through the build, plan it to take it to Classic Jets on the 16th December to let those who are interested have a closer look.
Feel free to email or PM for any more info.

Looks really nice Marc, lots of carbon used to reinforce the high stress areas. What retracts are you going to use? I now have a spare set of JETA1 for the Elan/Xl,I wonder if these would fit

What turbine are you going to use?
I am looking for a (2m) sport jet at the moment, this one looks nice, but what about the quality, do you think that it is comparable with CARF for example?
This may be the way to go as It will probably be even more docile that UFlash..

In my opinion it is certainly comparable to the CARF, this is my view however and whilst its not easy to make a straight comparison I tend to have fairly high expectations on these sorts of things (ask my friends) and I'm impressed with this Gryphon from what I have seen so far.
Dry assembly went fine, pics follow, only one item to 'adjust' and that's the stab carbon tube is slightly too long to allow the stabs to push fully home - guess its better than too short
I'm fitting a B100F in this, more power than needed but wanted to test this lovely turbine too so a little power management and all will be be fine.
Not sure he knows it yet but Ali Machinchy will have the pleasure in checking it out fairly soon.

Looks nice tho mate and the other schemes look a whole lot better.

Yes painted outside, not a seam in sight.
The decals are waterslide and applied under a clear coat so there is almost no 'ridge' to feel.
Tony will email you on that.

Payback opportunities don't come round often so I grab 'em when I can
Once Oli is old enough not to stick a paintbrush in his mouth we should be able to get the next scheme finalised
What is AUW on these?

Looks very nice indeed...... The colour scheme you have chosen could be described as well a little urgent on the eye. The more white one looks nice.
Mark
Are you going to be the UK distributer of these would be a nice size step to the stinger
Regards
Dennis

Dennis,
Yes UK distribution through GBRJET.
Always good to get feedback, yes she is bright, useful on a trainer, I am sure 'options' will be available in time once all the feedback has been crunched back in Italy.
