Seriously, why even put the video on the internet until the thing is working properly...... I wonder which manufacture's F104 this is? Hmmmmmm [X(]

RE: ouch, not so successful F104 test flight.......
My Friend Mr Fun scratch built an F-104 for an OS 91 and Dynamax fan about 15 years ago, we calculated the cg in the parking lot before the test flight, we had the same results as the video except with way less thrust.
The plane pitched up, stalled and sat down on it's tail.
After the addition of a Cresent wrench to the nose for balast, the F-104 took off, made a lap and then the flying stab broke loose. the F-104 pitched straight down and it looked like if flew into a manhole (the sewer kind). The wings ejected and there was nothing left but a smoking hole.
I have the second prototype in my basement, but we probably forgot where the real cg was.

I don't know why, but reading that made me laugh my ass off, that my friend is the quote of the decade I'm sure! I'd love to see the big hammer that must have been used to construct it if a crescent wrench was used for ballast LMAO!!!!!!!!

I dont think this is the company test flying something, from the user name its just someone who bought one.
They already have test flight videos of that aircraft flying with no issues.

Todd,
That only helps if you know where the CG is supposed to be.
We and the pilots on the video guessed wrong. I think the long nose and T tail move the CG forward of the wings CG.

I don't think it's the T-Tail. The fuselage on all airplanes adds some amount of lift/pitching moment. I know there are quite a few of these F-104's running around in EDF and pusher prop format. I followed those threads several years back and from what I remember, those guys got the CG correct by adding the fuselage as a partial lifting surface and the computed CG went forward dramatically and was very close to the calculations.

From what I have seen from the Chinese manufactures its ready to sell to the customer. I mean it did fly for a few seconds.

The test pilot was a 3D pilot (just look at the take off), but the power to weight ratio was a bit on the low side:-) Gravity sucked the thing right back where it belonged... Test hop successful, prepare disclaimer, and go into full production... Note to self: indicate a wide CG range on the blueprints. About 20 inch will do...

Also, sell as a trainer, and make a package with the new Turningy (Hobby King) turbine. Offer discount for sales of 2 or 3 per customer. They will need them:-)

You can tell the jet is lacking power and the take off should have been aborted. Hell, the ground speed wasn't enough to get a high wing trainer up. Good old "pilot error". Shudda wudda cudda.
