Default UAT question

Is there a min/max distance that a UAT should be from your fuel tanks? Is there any possible running issues from having a UAT plummed further away from the main tanks?

Thanks,

Jason

Never heard of any rule on the distance. My UAT is 19inches from the main tank. 400+ flights and no issues.

The shorter all the lines the better. UAT is before the pump, so big lines and shorter is better. I like looking at installs, but pictures and a quick look, usually are had to see all the thinking and planning that go into a plane, and behind cover plates. Good luck

only thing a long line will do is up your max pump voltage which will shorten the pump life expectancy, but it's not by any significant amount. the fuel pumps are quiet capable, leave the vent plug on a plastic tank and it'll completely collapse the tank and the turbine will never miss a beat...........don't try it with a fiberglass/Kevlar one though.

Well the jet I am thinking of doing this on is small. Habu 32 with a p20. I see everyone having to put larger than needed batteries up front to get the cg right. So my thought is why not put the UAT up there... and reduce the weight of the jet with normal size packs. The uat is always full so it makes sense to me. On a jet like the habu if you can save some weight it is huge.

This thread:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10..._1/key_/tm.htm

mentions 1.1 metres of fuel line from the pump to the engine to solve
some fuel feed problem, probably would not make much difference on the
feed side either with a small engine & low flows.

A friend routinely uses the header tank up front as ballast, no problems with
Wren 44's. Another friend is doing the same conversion as you, still waiting
for his engine last I heard. Sweet little jet! - John.

the only issue is if somehow your u a t drains before main tank due to air leak or other issue of the kind and affects c g it might cause a problem
but other than that you should be o k

As a general rule better to push/pump more than you suck so uat/tanks/pump close together with the longer line then to the turbine

The 1.1M of fuel line is the manufactures requirement for the P20 size turbine to lessen the effect of pump pulses, certainly on my Kero start P20 the pulses are evident on a short line, but not on the longer line to the main feed, having said that Ali has been using a short fuel line on his P20 of late with no problems.

And as an aside, I routinely do not use a UAT, but put a pleated paper or Orbit clunk filter in the main tank, never had a fuel feed problem or flame out on my turbines, to qualify that I do not have anything above a 120
