Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Happy new year all,
My wife bought me an Habu for Christmas, and after a few minute working fine, the ESC is no longer powering the receiver, but when connecting an other bat to power the receiver it all work fine.
The bat is 15.4v, and the switch seen to work properly (check with a continius tester), but their is no power in the thrittle lead...
Any idea why ?
Thanks

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
I assume this is a normal Habu rather than a Habu 32.
I suspect you have changed a setting so that the ESC is not seeing zero throttle when switched on and the ESC will not arm.
Try moving the throttle trim on your TX to the bottom and reconnect everything and try again.
I did this on my F27Q Stryker and it took me ages to suss it out

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Well since the receiver is NOT powered, I dont think the trim will change anything...
The ESC is doing the initial tone, and the 4 other tone for the 4 cell bat, but that all (it doesnt arm)
If I plug an OTHER bat in the receiver, it work fine, the engine is going from sero rpm to 100% rpm.
Its "like" the radio switch isnt working, but I changed it for a new one working fine and still no receiver power...

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
You mention replacing the 'radio switch'. Did you cut off the switch on the ESC or do you have another switch as well?
When you say that you power the receiver with another battery and it works fine, what type of battery are you talking about and how are you plugging it in? Are you using a different ESC to try it or a RX (eg 4.8v) type battery?

sounds like the BEC is bad or not making connection, make sure the center lead on the throttle is fully seated in the connector, it's common to remove the wire to not use the ESCs built in BEC so it could just be loose and pushed back.

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
ok, in normal use (the 16.4 lipo (4c) bat connected, and the throttle connected to the receiver) : no power to the receiver, nut the initial tone + 4 tone (for a 4 cell)
in alternate-test way (the lipo (4c) bat conencted, and the thr connrcted to the receiver PLUS a 5v normal bat connected to the bat port of the receiver) : everything work fine (the receiver, the engine response and spin).
its not the switch, I change for a new one : same thing... So the signal is going to the ESC, the engine wokr, and the lipo bat is good....
Only thing not working is the thr current not going to the receiver ?!?
I talked to the EFlite support and they will send me an other ESC, but still I think it may be just a simple problem... any idea ?
Thanks for your help BTW... ;-)

Not as i read, i got the impression he had absolutely NO power to the receiver from the BEC therefore the receiver never powered up. he used an alternate power source (a battery plugged into the receiver) and everything then worked........
if you get the beeps from the motor when the battery is plugged in the ESC is hot, if you then don't have voltage on the red wire of the throttle lead, the BEC is defective.

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Have you tried the switch in both positions? It is a fail safe switch so I think for the ESC to be on, the switch has to be off (i.e. open contact).

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Well, gess that why they send me an other one without any question...
But what is buging me, its the fact that it was working fine (for the first 10 minutes of use), and it happen to fail while I was taking off, just before of left up,
so I loose control and end my way in the border of the field without having taking off, so I gess I have been lucky...
But just a few second later and it was a crash...
so the plane is ok, I will wait for the other ESC and let you know, thanks everyone...
BTW : is it possible to use a separate RX battery ? Is it safe ?

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
yes, lots of people use a separate battery, or a separate BEC. on the higher cell count setups the built in BEC has problems keeping up with multiple servo setups on many ESCs.

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Yes it's quite safe, if you want to use a seperate battery remove/disconnect the red (+) wire that's on the servo plug from the ESC to the RX.

Mine did the same thing. Horizon made good with new one. Second esc has worked fine for many flights. Horizon has great customer service. Just call them.

this statement is WRONG.... guys make sure your giving good advice... BEC is is on the signal wire it's commonly the middel wire..

you should take your own advice........... power is always provided by the + wire not the signal, in most cases it's the red one, and it's the middle wire with the exception of old airtronics......and i don't recall airtronics making a BEC new or old.
just use a little logical thinking, why would you remove the signal wire to use a separate battery? how on earth would the throttle signal then get to the ESC?

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Good advice... The built in BEC is bad, therefore isolate it by disconnecting (+) wire and provide a new external power to the Rx. This serve you a clean power and absence from faulty BEC. If the cost is too much compare to a new ESC then replace the whole ESC, however the most important is to make sure the power to the Rx is reliable.

RE: Habu ESC not powering the receiver
Lots of post on RC*** about the BEC not being up to the job with all digital servo's, I took the red lead out of the throttle plug and tapped it back up the lead, then installed a two cell 1100Mah A123 for power into the Rx, no problems so far.
