Blast from the past
I was dusting off my first BVM jewel ... and decided to take a pic and share it.
Paint scheme is inspired in the Benetton Formula 1 Team of early '90s.
She flew hundreds of times. Including Jets Over DeLand 1992, where she won a couple of awards.
This hobby is great, isn't it ....

RE: Blast from the past
My idea when cleaning it was to evaluate the feasibility of feeding her with some electrons.
But I am not sure now. It will take a great deal of work. Glow fuel is hard on the structure.
Besides, after 22+ years, I don't know if the wing foam core will take any heavy load.
Couldn't figure out where to drop the batteries without major mods, either.
It looks so beautiful though (probably fathers love ), that I will continue using her as an adorn to my shop !!!
BTW, this RCU is full of old guys . I didn't imagine anybody would remember DeLand '92 !!!!!
We were playing with the state of the art those days: BVM kit, Viojett unit, Nelson 91, and PCM.

Jack, I am working on one of these for 12s if you want to talk shop. I hope to keep the weight down as well but there is room for batteries if you go with 4x3s.
Possible 2x3s and a 6s. She's getting there. Picture is terrible since it was taken in the dark with a cell phone.

Hey Matt, I am mounting the wing and wanted to get a feel for the how close it was with the stabs and then see if this setup would help for the vertical fin attachment. Which I think it will. Could just eyeball it but was having fun.

I grew up seeing the magazines and lusting after Viper's. It seemed the amount of amazing looking planes with incredible, diverse paint jobs was a bit higher back then.

Jack,
I remember Deland in '92. BV and David Ribbe showed the new F-16 for the very first time. In fact it was Deland, Superman, and the Greater Southwest being the three jet meets to attend. Back in the day I think we had about 12 in the entire country. Every now and then great models become destine for museum work. How lucky you are to have a model that brought you along so many years ago still be around today. Hang it up for her to fly over the shop and enjoy a beer while you gaze at her. That my friend is the ultimate final flight!!!

DeLand 92......I was 6 lol, no offense I got into jets with the help of Grbaker in 01 on a scratchbuilt F5( he called it the mic-20) looking ducted fan someone across the pond built while he was here just to fly.....I flew it for awhile till the old motor quit turning......ducted fans were fun when operating correctly.....ill have to find a pic and see if anyone knows the plane/builder.

Mike Lacey scratch built it. I called it the Mic 20, because Mick (as Mike was called) designed it and built it. It wasn't very pretty so I assumed it was Russian. I put a camo paint job on it and some red stars.
It flew great.
Can't load the pic for some reason. There is a pic of it in my gallery.

I have a N.I.B. Viper kit. Have taken a look at making it EVF powered but it will be tight, I picked it up from a guy who thought it would be a easy build since it is a glass and foam kit. He was wrong and these are a lot of work compared to modern kits like an Electra.

Thanks for bringing us back to the good old days. I started when BVM got started with the Sport Shark, then all the Aggressors and Vipers, Marverick and the Mavderick Pro. And loved those redone engines from John Akermen. I could never seem to out run BV, came close one time. They were the best. Wish I still had some of them.

RE: Blast from the past
All depends on your choice of fan. If you go with a Viofan - yeah pretty tight. But it can be done. If you go with the 100mm fans there is plenty of room.
In terms of the build, ..its pretty standard stuff. I would rather have had plans than the "manual" though.

Looking at those pics and hearing some of your comments it makes me think to not let life pass you by. Do those things you want to do when you are reasonably young because most things get harder as you get older.
So I guess that means I should buy that F9F Panther I always wanted
