Hi guys
Is anyone else out there flying the giant Tiger F-5 from Tomahawk? I am thinking about buying one for the next winter project. Beside the size, do the cost compensate the flying experience of the plane means:
- is it stable in the air, good to control, smooth to land?
- does the Jet fly slow (it is a Jet I understood) but sometimes jets facing stall in an inappropriate manner.
- thrust recommended?
- quality of the kit (Tomahawk)?
I would highly appreciate if anyone could provide some information with construction and flying experience.
Many thanks in advance for your support.
Cheers, Emanuel

Tomahawk f-5 cg
Need some help here gents.
I'm 98% done with the plane but having difficulty with the CG.
Can any of you share your CG settings please with pictures?
Also a few pics of my setup.
Thanks, Tassos

Hi tassos
Very nice plane and the finish already made in a manner I get jealous . I was told the CG at 95mm works. 14mm is too tail-heavy. A couple of weeks ago I received the kit.
I would be very pleased to get a feedback about the flying experience of the jet.
Do you use a smoker? what's the dry weight of the jet?
Cheers, Emanuel

Actually I've maidened her. I had only a little issue, one of the tires came off the rim slightly but this was because it was 40C here, and the tarmac even higher when I did the maiden which made the tires expand due to temp.
But actually easy plane to fly, large wing surface area despite the weight, dry 23.8kg with 2 x turbines.
Lands very nicely, nose up. Also set up the front gear air extension so the plane sits at an angle during take off which also made take off a piece of cake. Its an almost perfect scale plane, easy to take off and land and fly and its beautiful in the eye. Make sure you keep throttle authority, needs to run above 40-50% at all times otherwise the lack of air ducting slows it down a lot.
No, I don't have smoke and don't think I'll use one in the future as it is a bit messy.
So I figured out the CG and I made a diagram which I attach here, although not included in the Instructions - a bit difficult to understand from the description of the instructions where the CG is. The plane flew perfectly at these, maybe I can take it 10mm backwards, but I kind of like my ships a bit nose heavy.
Enjoy the build.
Thanks, Tassos

A friend and I are seriously considering the tomahawk F5. I see this plane regularly at jet power but we don't get to read much about it on forums. I would like to consider the single engine version. Any comments? What is the build experience like? Is this a new mold or an old dated one?

My Feedback: (58)
Hi Everyone,
I recently picked up a 1/4 scale Tomahawk F-5 Tiger II that has been built not yet completed & flown.
I really appreciate Tassos P for including the above picture of the CG detail, but . . .
Does anyone have the control throws for the ailerons, rudder, flaps, & stabilators as well as the neutral position for the stabilators?
Thank you in advance for any assistance,
Greg Hames

Referencing my GJC F5 ( feibao) so should get you close and you can reference Tassos F5 for stab position.
my stab is 1/16” above bottom of fuse belly. Minor trim change between clean wing 1/2 flaps full flaps. Remember Small wings you don’t need a lot of aileron throw, set triple rates low medium high start in medium. I think i fly around 1/8” not more than 1/4” it will become a blur in roll rate. Rudder is 3/4” and rudder is very effective. Flaps are eyeballed 15-20 degrees @ half and closer to 40 at full. I prefer to use them as intended ( lift increasing devices not drag inducing ) but if you crank down the flaps they will create a crap ton of drag ( not the worst thing as it’s a slick little bugger and lands at a pretty good clip. I also started using 1/8” of crow on landing and it helps with controllability. Try to get cg closer to neutral and will be a great flying bird, a nose heavy F5 is just a pain to fly.
good luck.
