Less than one hour I need to repair damage to the wing. Damage wasn't be structural, more "cosmetics"...

Bad landing show me how good & strong is model construction. I told earlier that a lot of time was devoted to made strong wing, especially around landing gear plates, because I know from how uneven airfield I fly. That work pay back now...

Already after landing, I saw that the damage is not big, especially I was pleased because nothing essential to the structure of the wing was not damaged. On the fuselage was not absolutely no damage.

On the underside of the wing that looked like this:

Upper surface...

The problem with such finishing model, with so many details, reparation can not do, and that can not be seen.
First I "composed" all the parts that are dispersed, using for their re-bonding ZAP's super glue.

On the bottom was a little more work because I cracked a rib wings had to be strengthened with carbon fiber fabric.
Karbon is set in 4 layers, which connect the entire interior of that part of the wings and make the "box" ...
For sure, here the wing will never break again...

Work on upper surface was "cosmetic"..

Upper side was light sand down...

From litho plates 0.15 mm thick I made panel which will cover the "patching".
Instead of paint on the panel itself stuck most closely shades of yellow Oracal self-adhesive foil tape ...

Same job was done on bottom side, only color was white...

Than I made rivets and dummy screws to add some details on new panels...

Landing gear returned (absolutely intact) and our Galeb G2 is ready again for new flights...

Repair took less than an hour of effective work, but it lasted two days, as the epoxy resin in the Carbon cloth have to dry for 24 hours ...

Mirce

Thanks Jef...

In meantime I flow Galeb G2 few times. It have more than 10 flights...
G2 fly so nice, it's extremely stable at low speed and look very realistic in the air...
I enjoy flying this jet...

In workshop I add lights...

Last evening we were again on our airfield...

Cenej airfield near Novi Sad is one of biggest sport airfield in Serbia. Unfortunately, like many things in my country, nothing happens there, so we modelers have all airfield just for us...

Anyway, we enjoy every time we go there ... Yesterday we stayed almost until twilight...

Galeb G2 fly recorded with Mobius camera. This is first time I use this camera on model. Next time I must put it on some sponge to eliminate vibrations...

Yesterday my daughter and I were on sport airfield near Belgrade.
With Galeb G2 I made two starts and this is second:

Airfield is much smoother than airfield I usually use on Cenej sport airfield. Take off was without "jumps"...

It would be a great winter project, the Hellcat is now being painted so it will be finished soon. The problem is cost of all the equipment. I am now retired so money is not so plentiful. But it is great to be retired.

Galeb G2 in 1/5 scale is interesting because it don't need expensive equipment. I fly my with Hitec HS 645 MG servos, two LiPo batteries for receiver, no "power box", giros or some other special components.
OK, turbine cost, landing gears are in class retracts of big warbirds...

This is not to convince you Steve, just want to tell, this design is try to make relatively large jet model, strong and easy to build, at an affordable price.
Biggest saving is work on model, because that I offer this model in short kit form...

OK, bigger "brother", Galeb G2 in 1/4 scale is ready for painting...

All details are apply, I must take out wall between cabin and pack space in my van. Fuselage is long...

Details...

Detail set for Galeb G2...

Can you believe, this is same model...

In next few days my friend will paint first color...

Quarter scale Galeb G2 is painted...

As I told before, color scheme is from aerobatic group "Stars", based on our local airfield.

Wing is huge, with wingspam of 2630 mm without tip tanks!!!
In case to made wing tip with tanks, total wingspan is 2920 mm...

All parts are install in wing, landing gears are from German firm Behote - C 50, wheels are140 mm and they are also from Behotec, servos for ailerons and flaps are Hitec HS 5645 MG.
I use pneumatic and small air actuators for inner landing doors...
All in all, wing weight is 7420 gr...

I measure fuselage, with front wheel and retract, tank, UAT, two biggest air bottle, all servos, thrust tube... weight is 6200 gr.
OK, it need few more things (switchers, batteries, receiver, wires, air system parts, etc...) bur that is not more than maximal 1 kg.
That is 7200 gr.

Next, turbine with equipment is 1,5 - 2 kilograms, all in all that is about 16 - 16,5 kg.
I think model will need some lead in nose, I don't know now how much, but total weight will not be more than (I think) 17 - 18 kilograms.

For example my second (lighter) Ziroli Hellcat was 19 kilograms (2450 mm wingspan) and Meister Scale P 47 was 21,5 kg...
Thunderbolt was almost same size like 1/4 scale Galeb G2 (2600 mm wingspan)...

In meantime some work was done on quarter scale Galeb G2...

In front of the fuselage pneumatic system is install. This Galeb have all retracts doors like real airplane, so I must put two pneumatic valves, one normal and UP2... Two air "bottles" are used for bigger capacity...

This is construction for easy fix front part of the fuselage. Through the first two fuselage ribs I glued aluminum tube. Inside that tube is carbon tube, on front side with 3 mm thread and on rear side is bigger carbon tube glued.

On front part I made small plate with nuts on rear side.

For UAT tank I made plate on which will be later turbine pump. Plate is removable to have access to air bottle...

Behind this parts will be main tank, but without turbinw I can't put it on right place.

Tanks come from CMJets firm.

Few pictures about instalation of the front retracts and doors...

All moving surface are glued, cabine floor painted in black and decals are apply on fuselage...

Front light is in its place...

So, that's all for now. Without turbine i cant made right position for thrust tube and main tank, also cant install turbine electronic and other stuff.

For now, models are in "hangar"...

Right now I work on Jastreb J-21.
Jastreb J-21, the former Yugoslav jet plane, was single seat, light attack aircraft originated from Galeb G2.
This model is a logical continuation of our project Galeb G2 in 1/5 scale.
Main differences will be in the front of the fuselage and wing will be made of three parts, for easy transport.
Story about this project can be find on: https://www.facebook.com/jastreb.rcjet

And, just to remind, details of short wooden kit of 1/5 scale Galeb G2 are on my web site:

Hello again Mirce,

I have just had a minute to catch up on your projects and I am truly amazed. The last time I was on RCUniverse, you had just flown your 1/5 scale Galeb G2 for the first time. Now I come back and see you have finished your larger 1/4 scale G2 and it is painted as well. Your 1/4 scale Galeb looks just as good as your 1/5 scale does. It looks like you have put allot of hard work into your 1/4 scale jet and it shows.

I am also very happy to read that you have been successful in selling a couple of your 1/5 scale Galeb kits. Hopefully I will get to see one of your Galeb G2's fly in person, one day. I wish you continued success in your business and I will patiently wait for the maiden report on your 1/4 scale Galeb. Hopefully spring will come very quickly for both of us. . . .

Take care, my friend,
David

Thank you David on so kind words...

From June last year, when I start working again on 1/5 scale Galeb G2, here in Senta, until now I made (for me) big progress.

In June this year fifth scale G2 have maiden flight, I sold first kit, bigger quarter scale G2 "brother" is finish, new project Jastreb J-21 is on good way to be ready for maiden flight at spring next year...

RC Universe & Facebook, where I publish my topics, give me opportunity to meet new modelers around the world and start some new projects.
In workshop come 3D printer, so now many parts will be print for my, but for customer models also.
Pilots, cockpit, details for scale warbirds and many other parts will be something what I'll start soon to offer...

At the middle of the December in workshop in Senta will be install my new laser cut machine...
Parts will be made faster, price will be lower and I want to try to find dealers for my products.

Plan for 2017 is to go on Jet Power meeting in Germany and present my kits and sets...

Other idea is at 2018 to be participant on Frank Tiano Top Gun meeting.
This depends largely on what will be at 2017 in "Mirce model" companies ...

So, plans are here and what will be the realization, we'll see. What is certain is that it will be interesting...

Regards

Mirce

In my latest jet project Jastreb J-21 some 3D printed parts are installed.

Jastreb J-21 have 3 piece wing, so wing joiner sleeve was print.
First I made few small tubes, for probe and when I find right inner diameter, 195 mm long plastic sleeve was made...

New part for my 1/5 scale Galeb G2 wooden kit are 3D printed tip tanks...

First tip tank is finish. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Regardless wall is just 0,8 mm tip tank is very, very hard, maybe to hard...

All parts fit perfect.

Weight with wing connection part is 210 gr.
When I measured weight of parts for vacuum made tip tank, they are 160 gr, but without glue, few layers of glass cloth, epoxy resin, filler...
I think at the end weight of this and vacuum made tip tank are almost same.
With changes we'll made, print tank will be at the end lighter...

This is first tank, so we must change some details.
For sure connection rings between parts are to big, strong (and heavy)...

Next step must be to made option to can take off tip tank from wing and put regular wing tip.
For that option, we need to made one more part (wing tip) and redesign last wing rib.
In that case pilot can choose to fly model with tip tank or normal wing tip.

I do not like, it need almost all day to print all the parts for one tank. 3D printing is slow process.
After assembly, tip tank has to be sanded.

But, from other hand, after that, you have finish product.

To made tip tank from vacuum parts, you need more to work, especially around fitting parts and finishing...

All in all, printing tip tank is for me better option...

"Mirce model" offer service for 3D printing. If you need printing parts send me e-mail...

Few days ago I started to work on parts for customer 1/5 scale Galeb G2.
He bought wooden kit and we made deal to I made for him "small parts" (aileron, flaps, elevators...), and three piece wing.

Wing from three piece is new offer for this model. It is easier for transport and storage.
Now when order wooden kit you can choose between one or three piece wing platform.

In meantime in my workshop come new laser cut machine, so now all parts will be made here.

I have all ply parts for this project cut earlier on laser cut machine of my friend, but balsa pieces wasn't made then.
We cut one piece wing, but now I must prepare parts for three piece wing.
So, I turn on my machine and made missing parts...

In workshop I first prepare all pieces for "small" parts...

The preparation goes quickly when all the parts are there ...

I use white (carpenter) glue, with ZAP or similar glue, building can be faster, but that is not important for me now...

To be continued...

get some 4 or 5mm neodymium magnets bars or disks good way to hold stuff down on your laser honeycomb bed, especially with 3mm ply, that never seems to be totaly flat no matter how well you store it.

Thanks my friend, I use some weight for ply and for balsa, for me, is easier to fix with masking tape...

Small parts of 1/5 scale Galeb G2 are done for now, so next step is to made three piece wing.
First I prepare plane for center panel section and all parts...

On right points I put spar mounts.

For easier start I glued first spar & ribs ply connection. That give me right angle for rib #1...

Same on the rear spar...

...than first rib...

When glue dried, come rib #2 than next vertical parts, next rib and so on... Spars and vertical parts always give right space...

Right side is copy - paste...

In meantime I prepare 6 mm hard ply parts...

First step in center panel section was finish...

Next was to install few small parts...

Than I glued front and rear wooden joiner...
