Thanks Jeff and Azzam for kind words...

Azzam, I try CG calculator from link you post here and depend from Static Margin values are almost same I got earlier.
If margin is safer (5%) CG is on 140mm, if margin is on 10% CG is on 159mm.

I think 150mm will be OK, but for maiden flight I'll put it on 140mm.
Know how modelers say: "nose heavy model fly maybe bad, but tail heavy model fly just once"...

I maybe forgot to mention, weight of 11,3 kilograms is with all equipment install.
Turbine is IQ Hammer 90+, thrust tube is with two walls, servos on all surfaces are Hitec HS 645MG (10,3kg on 6V), only nose steering servo is HS 5645 MG.

My goal is to made relatively easy build, robust, good fly jet model, for which you don't need some extremely expensive parts.
G2 shape is like on warbird and I think that will be great model for first step in "RC jet story".
Of course, G2 kit will offer to made that step pretty cheap...

Real Galeb G2 was one of the best jet airplane in era when he was used.
I talk with pilots and mechanics, who told me that G2 "forgave" many pilot errors.
Because that, I think that model must fly as good as real Galeb G2. But, we will see this "theory" soon, on first maiden flight...

For today, pictures of G2 model surface. On sun details on fuselage and wing are come on real fore...

On pictures you can see panel lines which are just apply on surface and near them I add rivets and other details.
That is easier method for surface finish, no need thick filler to get panel line "channels", no cost for filler, no extra weight and less to work...
Result, are almost same...

Regards

Mirce

Default Greetings

Hello my friend,

It's been a long time since I've visited you, here on RCU. I have just finished reading about your new 1/5 scale Galeb and your HUGE 1/4 scale Galeb. I congratulate you on all your hard work on both planes. Your new 1/5 scale G2 looks, as you say "perfect". I am sure your 1/4 scale will turn out the same way. Like many other followers, I am looking forward to your maiden flight of your new G2. The combination of a lighter weight model and a slightly more powerful turbine should make for a very nice flying jet. If I may make an observation. I remember reading during your first G2 build that another gentleman warned about putting the matchbox for the elevators so far away from the receiver because of a much reduced loss of power and I noticed in one of your recent pictures of the new G2, the matchbox was in the same place. Maybe the latest picture was just a temporary setup? I have lost a model on its maiden flight due to a failure in the elevator and I would hate to see it happen to someone else, especially on such a beautiful model that you have invested so much time and hard work into.

I will continue to follow along and continue to admire your outstanding craftsmanship. Your building skills give modelers like me something to strive for in our planes.

Take care,
David

Hello David,

I don't know on what to thanks first, on kind words about model, or for tip about Match Box.
To be frank, I totally forgot about that Match Box advice. Now I look back, yes in topic #191 on page 8, JPate told that.
In next few days that will be hanged. I have free channels in receiver, so put every elevator servo in one and mix it.
Bad thing is I must take out thrust tube to put one more servo wire.
From other side, that is smaller job than made new model...

Thank you my friend and all the best from Senta, Serbia

I think in the middle of the April will be maiden flight.

Now I wait on kerosene, I needed to get it this weekend. Unfortunately plan fail, so now, next weekend hope that I'll have it.
After that need to start turbine on workbench, check how it work, than to install everything back, final in model and than maiden flight...

Yesterday was TV crew, from our national TV station, to made report about my Galeb G2 project, for one TV show.
At Friday evening that will be broadcast and few days latter that TV show will be on Youtube also.
I'll put link here...

Best regards

Few days ago I made worktable for turbine and all other components and today I made first start with IQ Hammer 90+ turbine.
Everything work perfect...

Idle is on 45.000 revs and on full throttle turbine have little more than 165.000 revs. Temperature rise to 711 degrees Celsius...

My hand made UAT made some small leak, so that I need to rework. No big deal...
After that one more test on workbench and than all parts go in model and maiden flight. I think, next week...

Thank you Quandry...

In meantime I try to fix problem with my handmade UAT, but unfortunately it leak always when filling up with kerosene.
So, yesterday I ordered custom Kevlar made tanks from CMJETS.
Now I need to wait two - three weeks before I get it. Carlos must to made mold for main tank and it takes time.

To not waste time, 1/4 scale Galeb G2 is back on worktable...

Wooden model for mold is ready, until end of the week Carlos will made tanks. Than a couple of days to get it ...

In meantime I continue work on bigger 1/4 scale G2.

First I want to finish transit from fuselage on the wing...

When I finished that parts, next was to made "fine tuning" on wing before first layer of wood filler.

Martin take tool for cabin on vacuum machine and few days ago he got first cabin.

Difference between cabin sizes is evident...

Secret is, two years ago I move with my family in Senta, small city 60 miles norther from city I lived before.
Life is here relax, easy, Senta is wonderful city on the river Tisa, people know each other, you can finish everything with bicycle, no hurry, great nature...
Pictures tell thousand words...

Nirvana...

Image made our fellow citizen Bodo Zoltan

Second secret is, I work on my models every day, but I'm not in hurry, enjoy in every building moment...

Sorry for little off topic...

One more famous thing is Battle near Senta, at September 11. 1697.
History told that being the fourth largest battle in the whole history of Europe...

Hello Mirce. Nice work - as usual!

This is a one beauty G2, with nice color schemes. You prefer straight shapes and lines

Hello Bratislav, yes this one is very nice.
Bigger G2 model ( 1/4 scale ) will be in some original color scheme, probably this:

BTW, few days ago Carlos send UAT and main tank for smaller model. I hope next week I'll get parcel.

Just wait for tanks and one more to start turbine on work bench and after that to instal everything in model and maiden flight...
I'm now impatient to see how model fly...

In mean time I worked on bigger Galeb, all "small" parts (flaps, ailerons, moving rudder and elevator parts) and outer wing panels are glassed, sanded and ready for panel lines, rivets and other details.
Right now I apply glass cloth on fuselage and center panel wing part.

Fuel tanks finally arrived few days ago. Unfortunately it need 7 weeks to get it, that is reason for delay in my topic here.

Carlos from CMJets made great job with Kevlar fuel tanks and I'm very satisfied. They are strong, rigid and most important, no leak...
Main tank is 2 liter and UAT is 150ccm.

For UAT cantilever I use 1,5mm thick G10 plate...

Main tank lying in the cradle, tanks are one in front of the other, fuel lines are short...

Top side of main tank is flat and with Velcro I fix air tank.

Blue hose is from main tank second outlet. That outlet is for case that in model you have more than one fuel tank.
Galeb have only one tank, so I closed the exit...

Next step is to determine CG. For that "operation" I made a new device for balancing models.

Old was like this...

... and this new is almost the same.

This balancing machines is great for big models. It's made from galvanized pipes, easy for assembly and disassembly, do not need much space for storage...

While I was waiting for tanks I worked on bigger 1/4 scale G2.

Some parts are ready for panel lines, rivets and other details...

Upper surfaces of the center panel is glassed...

Bottom side will wait to made gear doors. I ordered small air cylinders and piano hinge, so until I got them no work on this model part...

Front fuselage part is glassed also...

Next for glassing is fuselage...

In next few days I'll go on my new airfield to check how big is grass. Maiden flight is now very close...

Thanks on comments...

Today I visit airfield where will be G2 maiden flight.
Just as we were, tractor mowing the runway. Hope grass will be collected in next few days.

Plan is that early next week once more finely mow area for model take-off and landing. Airfield is huge, the soil is pretty straight, no cracks, molehill, so hope everything will be OK...
