I just noticed that other vendors in the UK are now listing this on their websites. Looks like any outlet that deals with Ripmax will be abale to supply this Hunter. The prices are all the same that I can see. Well they are at the moment. Hopefullly when it actually becomes available there will be a bit of price competition.
There is no flexibility on the price, originally it was not going through any dealers, only direct through Ripmax's shops. There is a very small margin for shops and it is only specialist Jet vendors who Ripmax will supply...

Dw
Sounds like a bit of a stich up by Ripmax in that case. Time will tell

Looking good Colin, although you may want to look at the way you have the festo tube coming out of the Y valve. Side pressure can cause them to leak and the bottom tube (as you look at the photo) is under a fair amount.
Cheers for your install tip Duncan - fuel system so far tested at full output for 5 minutes and no issues noted. I will definitely let you know if that changes

In fairness though - having looked at that actual install the tube is not as ''taught'' as it looks in the pic, so there isn't really a side load on the festo fitting
That's cool then, at least it's safe if not aesthetically pleasing

Here are a couple of the pics of the Merlin 140 thats going in this baby. I know everybody knows what a turbine looks like but I've got to say the quality of these units is just brilliant. Even down to where they have done the dynamic balancing and had to remove some material - it is carefully taken from the inside of one of the lips so you can hardly see it. On all my JetCats I can see a rough grind mark where they have balanced the turbine - not that this makes any difference whatsoever to how it runs but it just shows excellent attention to detail.

Shows the attention to detail and the improvements that Gasper makes as he goes along, the grind marks on my early 90 where pretty obvious, but as you say nice and neat on the latest ones.

Colin,

did I understand you correctly in referencing somewhere back about instructions? I got my kit 10 days ago from the factory (brokered through GJC) and I have yet to see a build manual or a CD? So far very pleased with the kit overall, save for a few minor hiccups...Keep up the good work on the build, and thanks

Very impressed with the merlin 140 in all areas bar one, I did'nt like the fuel/kero pipe positions or more the angles they go into the turbine as can be seen in the pic.

The fuel pipe was actually bang inline with the mounting plate and you cant rotate the turbine as you normally would due to the bracket for the EGT probe.

A bit better thought would have been to have the two pipes entering the turbine in the same place at the same angle as now with the kero start you run both pipes together to the same place, just means now one has a big loop to meet up with the other.

I have taken the front cover off to have a look and it can be reconfigured, this change will keep the fuel pipe away from the mounting plate, something I will do when I get my own merlin, but did'nt want to modify this engine as it is a model being built for someone else.

Looks like you have just enough room there for a Festo 90degree piece which will solve the issue if you don't want to mod the customer's airframe?.......

Or just take your dremel and using a sanding drum, make a semi circular recess in the mounting rail, job done.

Job is finished and sorted, I just wanted to point it out, I will modify the pipework on the turbine on my own one inside the case.

Z
Z,

The instructions have just been completed. They were written by Ripmax UK during the development of the product so you may notice some slight differences between the way I have built mine and the way the instructions are written but either way its all here to help ! Most importantly make sure you set up the throws / CG as per the manual.

If anybody has any questions / problems with the build just feel free to ask.

Link to instructions here:-

Well done to Colin & Ripmax for an excellent manual [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

And it's in ENGLISH [X(] not a terrible Babelfish translation of something else.

It's so dissapointing when you spend so much money on a kit/artf and the is no manual or a very poor manual.

I know that most of you are experienced enough not to need a manual, but it helps to have one when you sell the kit N.I.B.

Came across this nice 3 page Hunter walk around while looking for something else. Thought it may be of interest to fellow Hunter fans.

Greg,

Wonder if I have time toget it going before Ft. Collins? any word on the dates?
We need to catch up one of these says.

Z,

How is your one progressing?

Mine is all done and ready for test flight now [8D] Heres a few final pics. One of the saddle tanks all plumbed up. Also the bypass setup. You get a full bypass which is nicely made unlike some others I have seen that seem like afterthoughts. The lower half has the integral bell mouth so I lined up the pipe, turbine and bell mouth before drilling and fixing anything. I had to trim about 3mm off the front of the tailpipe to get everything as I wanted it.

Also a pic of the front end install. My only tip here is do as much as you possible can outside of the model. The cockpit opening is very small - I can only get one hand in at a time. Thats not a complaint / issue, thats just the way it is with the Hunter.

The tray I have my UAT and air brake valve on is one of my own creations again. In the kit you get a 2nd wooden install tray that goes up into the nose. I elected to leave that out as there is plenty of space in the forward nose area for batteries. I have put in 3 large capacity 2 cell lips as far forward as possible. With this setup the CG is as per instructions.

Colin,

Very nice and clean. Anxiously awaiting flight reports.

Unfortunately, all I've done with mine is take out of the box, inventory parts, and drool. I'm in the process of moving back stateside the end of this month, so i've packed everything back up and she'll have to wait for sometime this summer for the build, as I've also got work commitments in April for three months straight! [:@]

There were some minor issues with my kit, which are being taken care of by FB. Good customer service w/ Mike at GJC, and Catherine at FB. I had a scratched up canopy, and a few little other minor issues, but parts are on their way to my flat here in Hong Kong as we speak. I have a Jet Central Super Eagle I will be installing in mine. Never used a full bypass system, so that will be a treat. The cockpit is super nice. SS pipe seems very light. All else seems top notch

Cheers and good luck with the maiden

A reflective Monday morning allows us to question sanity! We went flying yesterday in cold wet conditions and during a lighter spell Colin was tricked into assembling and checking the Hunter. With all the usual checks done another heavy spell of rain meant a futher delay in flying, but again the worst of the rain passed and an engine and range check that was faultless had Colin pushing the throttle open and taking off... A circuit later and more rain coming, Colin's glasses made vision impossible and I was given the Tx...thanks! A couple of circuits to nail the trim and the Hunter was storming around, I felt it needed less elevator than colin had and some more expo, but otherwise it flew really well (not that the conditions helped with that knowledge)
The gear worked perfectly and the flap settings seemed fine, even with a cross wind the Hunter landed really well (great having a wide track U/C!)
I can't wait for more flying in better conditions.

A very wet looking Colin taking the Hunter apart after the flight!
