Default Nitroplane Cessna Citation 2 x P20s

My mate Raj has purchased a Nitroplanes Cessna Citation and a couple of P20s .... Hes a airliner nut and has asked me to install / build it ... the kit is of questionable quality - but it should be a fun project nether the less ...

By the way this one doesnt have all the nasty stickers on it!

He has purchased the Eflite electric retracts as well, which will simplify things a little ... the P20s are dwarfed in those nacels ...

A cheap mans A10 ;-)

Yes big problem with models like these is the quality of the gluing, but easily sorted to a modeller, snag is many that build ARTF's think glue is only 5 min epoxy and superglue !

One method recently used on a cheap chineese ARTF was to run aliphatic resin (better than normal pva) down all the wood joints by simply squeezing out a blob on the joint and holding the wing/fuse vertical so it ran all the way down the joint.
With a bit of time I was able to apply glue to most areas of the wing with retract/flap/aileron hatches etc you can get at most of the important areas.
Aliphatic resin is an excellent glue for wood and much quicker drying than old PVA, very under used except by the true modeller

Only job for wood formers to fibreglass is hysol used with the applicator tube, very easy to do, when done pull out the centre of the applicator tube, mix and apply the excess by hand, so very little waste.

I have found myself coming back more and more to pva/aliphatic resin these glues have been around for a very long time for a reason, the modern age has been spoilt with using glues that have to work straight away, but as the jet modeller has seen with hysol slower is actually much better.

Scott,
Raj an airline nut ?? that does describe him well ? i was also asked by him to do a similar p20 project with a learjet but i did think the Citation would be a better option,
looking forward to your assembly thread,
cheers Euan,

Nice Euan .. He has mentioned you a little This kit is such poor quality :-( but I like a challenge and Raj is a good mate ... I sorted his TriStar out last time, installed his P120SX - put over 50 hours one that one for him, retracts servos etc etc and he flipped it on landing 2nd or 3rd flight ...

Quite possibly... I had an Avonds F15 and also for my sins an old Boomerang Intro .... Got both the Avonds F15 and the Avonds F104 ... best in breed ...

Raj was on about the Gulfstream, but they are heavily backordered arnt they?

Im tempted to ask him to not give me any cash for this job but for him to part with the other Tristar he has, I have a spare P80 ....

Yeah, I know what your saying ... the wings are tail planes etc are beefy and well made, the fibreglass parts although lacking finess in places are thick and sturdy ... Im hopeful to be honest ... I be starting in it in a couple of weeks so Ill soon know ...

It has many good vids on youtube ... I believe you can tell an awful lot from how a plane is seen to take off and land ... should be ok ...

I suppose if you beef it up in enough places this could work. But since the wings are partially sheeted with low quality balsa and covered with Chinese monokote, you may have an issue if you pull too many G's in a high-speed turn. If you fly it slow and scale like, you may just enjoy a few flights. I still think you will be throwing a ton of weight in the nose too offset having two turbines in the nacells.

The wings are fully sheeted .. and the P20's weigh less than a 90mm fan and motor ... but it will require weight in the nose with out a doubt...

Hello,
as Scott has pointed out this kit is strong enough to take the two p20s,the glass work being polyester is a little on the thick side and yes some formers need a bit of glue ?? nothing that any decent modeller cannot overcome.Scott mine weighed in at 13 lbs with its 90 mm edfs and 12 cells and could be thrown around including inverted snap rolls and all sorts of avaition abuse .I eventually repainted it in easyjet livery and sold it on to hang up in a travel agents , i nearly bought one of Raj,s Tristars also to hang up in a bar but i hope you can do a deal on it and get it flying,
cheers Euan.
