I must admit I would like smaller batteries as it is a bit of a squeeze but I have 4 of these packs so want to try to use them. The two packs all up weigh 833 g. So I think I will need a small amount of tail weight. I dont think the plane will have any trouble lifting them with all that wing

Had a great day flying the Venom at the Newent club site today, even let my student fly it! Really is an impressive package, the gear coped with the rough grass site without any fuss!

After watching the Australian GP(well done Jenson) decided to assemble my Venom EDF (thanks Colin) before going out later in the afternoon to Mothers day meal with the family.

First ,what an excellent kit. These new EPOfoam models are getting better and better.

Model is quite large and the fan has plenty of go as everything went flying off the counters in my shop the first time i opened up the throttle.

Decided to use Logic RC Storm 4500mah 35C packs which way 700grams so CG should be OK.

Retracts work fine with servo operated front gear doors.

Dave W and Steve R flew their Venoms last Sunday at West Raynham and iwas very impressed.

Very good value for money so Colin should sell loads.

Phil.

I weighed the packs I've used and the TP 3850 at 615 gram is perfect. The Overlander pack at 710gram is a bit nose heavy. Just max the elevator movement and its fine though as long as you don't get too slow on landing. The field on Saturday had quite a short runway set up and it still took off easily in 10m!

My Venom is ready to fly. I bought the ARF kit and fitted it with HS65 MG servos all around. To keep weight to a minimum I choose to remove all plastic servo mounts and skip out on the rudders.

The power comes from a Lambert Kolibri T25 which will provide enough power for 1:1 thrust to weight ratio even fueld up. It flies good on the T15 too but I want the extra oumpf for short field and high grass take offs.

CNC routed G10 parts such as turbine mount, reinforced front gear mount and thrust tube holder is made by HAB Electronic ([email protected]), thrust tube comes from CS turbine service ([link=http://www.csturbine.se/se/?page_id=550]CS turbine service[/link])

We'll see how it works in a couple of days I guess

After testflying it I'm also sure a P-20 does fine. Take off run with the Kolbiri T25 from our grass field was almost instant, about 1.5-2meters. Landings are very slow and controlled too. Normal flap setting does't need any mixing but the full crow needed some 10% down elevator mixing.

When I fly mine with the electric set up I am sort of worried to loop her or do to vigerous maneouvres because of the boons and the way they tend to wobble on throttle up on the ground. How do you think she will hold together with a P20 or Kolbiri in her

It does well, the booms are glued in place and I see no wobbeling. The turbine seem to shuff the exhaust well under the stab, the 40mm thrust tube focuses the blast while the EDF blows at the whole ~90mm outlet. Ofcause the thust of the Kolibri T25 is too much for regular flying so you need to keep throttle low when going downwards. I also support with full flaps when going down from a loop or in a vertical 4-point roll. This IS my slowflyer and I do not intend to fly it fast.

I noticed some play in the wing joints, even though I did't do any manovers pulling G's, thinking of glueing the wings togeather just to be safe.

Fuled up with smoke the TOW is 3kg, the Kolibri engine puts out a tad more thrust then that which makes the performance good... the long grass makes the take of run a bit longer then usual though.

Henke

Very nice flight and the plane flies really well with plenty (too much) power! The smoke system is interesting on such a small plane, can you let us have some info.

Hi John,

I use an old fuelpump from a Kolibri T32, pumping smoke fluid through a 0.7mm stainless injection needle. It uses it's own 7A ESC which is mixed to the throttle channel. I think it turned out pretty well

No2 also in the air now, same setup as mine with thrust tube and Kolibri T25 power. No2 is however fitted with rudder, lighting system and a 3 axis gyro. Further testing needed for evaluation though.

I made another 8 flights yesterday. It flies very very slow with full flaps and just above idle. It looks so nice when you pass your self like 10ft away and 1ft of the ground with smoke on :-) As I was alone at the airfield I had to do both flying and photographing, so not very exiting pix today but still something to look at.

Venoms are back in stock today ! Very exciting after a long wait and I can't wait to stick a P20 in my new one so I can go crazy like Henke!

Sounds good!! The airframe is a great performer. Looking forward to videos from you too :-)

Thinking I need to make a vid showing the slow flying capabilities too, it flies insanely slow at only about 1.5lb of thrust. (checked with our thrust test bench)

Great thread
Thanks to Colin, I now have a package on it's way with a Venom inside (I hope )
Also thanks to Henke for advice and answering questions, I now have the P20 installation kit from www.hab.se heading my way.
My new P20SX is waiting for both packages
(will mount HS65MG in this one also, maybe keep the factory installed servos on the rudders though)

I'm maybe gonna stick a LiPo in it and do a couple of testflights before fitting the REAL engine, if I can find some suitable batteries in one of my boxes....
Thanks for input guys!

Good luck with the build. Our testing shows the stab will survive the P20SX start sequenze without problems. However we usually add thin aluminum tape to the surface. Look at the home improvement stores selling insulation for aluminum tape, about 75mm wide and MUCH thinner then the 3M tape, almost like aluminum foil. Perfect for our use.
