I think its genius...so many driving prices down down and here we are with a crazy price item that people will buy! It comes down to salesmanship, some can some can't! It obviously also comes down to numbers sold (or expected) and moulding cost. I had a Bugatti Veyron visit the unit the other day and he was happy to spend 1.3million on four wheels...Richard who works for me kept saying it was a VW and over priced, but people buy them.

RE: Ultra Bandit single seater
You think ripping off your customers is genius???
I'd like to know why a pair of UB drop tanks and pylons that are a lot more work/effort are $350 with multiple plugs/joining etc and a simple hatch is over $1000. It's simply to see who will pay it and to profiteer on those that do. At least you essentially agree it's profiteering!! I just don't think it is how most people who have already dropped crazy money on a UB will like to be treated.

I didn't say that. I said that the fact people would pay for it...I'd never buy an UB, I know its special, but it makes no sense. You had one and sold it and now you have ordered a second one, you obviously accept the cost!
Its down to worth. Some people like to enjoy something that not everyone would or could own.

RE: Ultra Bandit single seater
Mark, I can't see why you are getting so worked up over it. It's not as if it is a part thats essential to the operation of an Ultra Bandit. It's an optional extra, and one that you can operate a UB without just as well.
Also. You seem to be happy to pay the asking price for a UB kit. Now would you say it was fair if I were to break the kit down into sections.. lets say. Fuselage, wings, tails??? If I did this what percentage would you say that the top decking of the fuselage is of the overall composition of the model? Correct me if I am wrong. But was a UB airframe not selling for $9k? Now to me, that top hatch makes up allot more than 1/9th of the total percentage of the airframe composition.. no?
I recently looked at ordering some composite components for my car. Now this puts what we pay for our toy planes into perspective. A composite transmission tunnel. Sure its quite a big part.. Funnily enough I would say about the same sort of size as a UB top hatch. Admittedly its a little more of a intricate shape than the Hatch, but it has no structure within in. After all, its just a fancy dressing for the mechanics of the car... Hell It isn't even painted. The one I was looking at delivered to me in the UK was just a tad over £2K ( $3k +) Now I am betting thats a part that is produced in more numbers than a UB top deck ever will be... How about a Carbon spoiler from a R8 Gt... A hollow moulded glider wing with some vertical aerofoil standoffs... A snip at $11000 ! Would I buy one?? No. Do they sell? I guess so as there is a lead time on them, and people seem to be going nuts for them, so I guess the market is out there somewhere.
Dont sweat it so much. It's Bob's business, and his to do with as he pleases. I wouldn't say I know every detail about him, but over the years I have got to spend some time and hang out with him, and unless he has an offshore account, or a holiday home in the bahamas ( which he must hardly ever use if he does, as he is always at work) Then the guy is not rolling in all this cash that people seem to think he's making out of over charging so extortionately for his product. I guess what I am trying to say, is that I don't think its all the big rip off that some people believe it to be. I have yet to see any sort of exotica parked in the BVM parking lot, and although they do spend allot on attending various events each year, even this they seem to do on a modest and controlled basis. I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't see them burning cash as I have seen some other " High rollers" who have graced our trade over the years.
Yes I do agree his equipment is not cheap. I think there is a genuine reason for that, and in that is the foundation of why he keeps churning out the products that other manufactures aspire to match.
Count to 10 Mark, do some breathing exercises, and when your ready.. let me know what colour you want your top hatch. I will order yours the same time I place Birdy's order [&:]

RE: Ultra Bandit single seater
Scott, you doing a convertible too??
Guess I'm just pi$$ed coz having dropped the daft amount needed for one of these I missed the chance to get this option (would have been my preference) as part of the kit by just a couple of weeks and am now looking at having to cough up another $1050 [:@]
But then again those that know me know I always seem to be able to lose money hand over fist on anything I do in this hobby anyway

Matt,
The pilot in BV's bird is an MGA full length pilot. He's a real tall skinny guy, standing 13" tall, and sitting at about 7". I guess you could say he is about 1/6 NBA player scale.
Mine is a 1/6 Blue box pilot, and I feel he is the right size.
Mine is now completed.

Oh My Freakin God!!
I've just heard how much a new bit of fibreglass is going to cost to turn your UB into a single seater. Now we'll know who really has more money than sense.
Incredible.

Hi Ali, you are totally right. I recently bought a expensive kit of good quality from another reputable manufacturer. But as I am working on it, I see that in no way can compare with BVM stuff. There are a lot of little things that make a big difference in cost of building for a manufacturer.
