Default ULTRA FLASH SADDLE TANK/BYPASS QUESTION?

Anyone running the saddle tanks in the UF with the full bypass and intake ducting installed? Rumor has it it may not fit? Who's done it?

Thanks.

Didn't work with my UF with smoke saddle tanks (I have fuse and wing fuel tanks). Most I know don't have bypass in their UF.

Yep, but I have to say it took a lot of modifications including reinforcing the intake/bypass joiner along the inside of the seam so the massive external joining flange could be heavily modified/removed to allow the tank on that side to fit. The tanks are also a little thin and had to patch around where the standard wing mounting bolts hit them, ended up using a bespoke set of just long enough bolts.

Unless you need them I would not bother, I am using the wing tank for smoke so these are to make up for the loss of that capacity.

Rob, thanks for taking the time to post and take a few pics. I will be doing the same soon. Using the saddles for fuel and the wing for smoke oil.

No problem, I just happened to be taking a break from working on mine so it was easily to hand.

Hi Rob,
What duration do you get with the saddle tanks and the fuse tank for fuel?
I'm planning to use a JC Cheetah for power.
Is the CG affected ? Will it become tail heavy on takeoff ?

I have saddles in mine. A little bit of work to get them to fit easily but nothing major. I had to grind off some of the flanges and reinforce the seams of the saddles with f/g cloth. A couple hours work and thats all. You do need to shorten the wing hold down bolts...they will puncture the saddles if left the original length.

I have saddles in my Ultra. I thought about full bypass for a while then I realized, What for? If you look at it, the saddles act as the outer walls of the bypass and the wing closes the passage completely. Full bypass would add little benefit when running saddle tanks.

I'm running a Titan SE (160) and I set my timer for 6:50. When the alarm goes off I leisurely configure for landing and land. On the ground I have about 1 1/2" of fuel left in the main.
