MIDO A-10 stab fairing
Hi,
I'm finishing up my A-10 and have a question about the stab fairing.
There's a lip molded into the rear of the fairing that I thought would go under the skin of the rear fuse.
However, it seems to me if you cut out the rear of the fuse so the fairing will slide in, the rear of the fuse will be weakened and likely to crack.
So, I'm not sure what to do: they took the time and effort to mold in the lip, so there's a reason it's there, I just don't want to cut the fuse if I don't have to.
Thanks,
Jon

RE: MIDO A-10 stab fairing
Jon,
I believe that's just 'flashing' from the actual mold. Trim it off, mount your stab on the fuse, mark the outline of the fairing, build 2 balsa formers to fill the 'voids' either end and glue everything in place.
I didn't bother with the balsa formers and it's pretty strong.

RE: MIDO A-10 stab fairing
also....
cut off the pieces that would lay flat on the bottom of the stab (1 each side)
i have seen people leave them on and the seam and step it leaves does not look to good. IMO
i also used a small piece of phonolic tube to go between the rear bolt hole and the bolt hole in the stab, the front hole works great.
i had to trim alot of the front vertical wall on this piece to get it to fit correctly. and some off the back sides for control horn clearance.

RE: MIDO A-10 stab fairing
WARNING- WARNING- WARNING
On my two A10 the stab screws were too short. They just went 2 or 3mm into the bolts.
It's more wise to replace them by longer ones.
