Changing to A123's
I've been using Li-Mg batteries, specially Duralites for several years;
and now thinking to change to A123's.
Any suggestions as to which brand to buy; quality, endurance, trust,
easiness to handle and charge?
Thanks;
E.N.T.

I second that, just make sure you have genuine A123 cells (there is no other 'brand') and you will be fine. Charging is simple when using a cellpro charger. It charges through the balance lead automatically.

RE: Changing to A123's
There are other LiFe batteries that are good quality. I've bought a few brands, and had good luck. But... with any new battery, I cycle it just to make sure that it's running at it's projected capacity. If it doesn't... they don't go in anything expensive.

I've been using [link=http://www.kingtechturbines.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=53]These[/link] from Barry recently and they are great.

Genuine A123's are only made by one company "A123" go to their web site and you will be able to find the serial number of the cells you require, the previous poster is correct they only come in 2300 and 1100 Mah if they are any other capacity they are not genuine A123's, don't trust any substitutes there are a lot of rubish cells on the market and you may not find out until its too late
Mike
EDIT: a good indication of the quality of the battery is the "C" rating, Genuine A123's have a much higher C rating than any knock off.

I have been using these Hyperion Brand LiFe 6.6 volt batteries for over six months now..
http://hyperion-eu.com/products/prod...-FG305-1450-2S
I assume these are not genuine A123s, but share the same chemistry.. Is this correct??
As I understand it, Hyperion make VERY good quality batteries. These cells have served me well so far..
Am I missing something??

I've had great results with A123 packs from NoBS batteries: [link=http://www.hangtimes.com/a123_packs.html]http://www.hangtimes.com/a123_packs.html[/link]
He custom builds packs with various connectors, they usually arrive in 1-2 days .. USPS is very fast along the east coast :-)

Which ever brand you buy, make sure the packs have the genuine A123s in there. If i am not mistaken they only come in 2 sizes, 1100mah and 2300mah.
Chatty.

Excellent and fast service. Just tell Kathy what length and type of connectors you want.

RE: Changing to A123's
I don't use anything but A123s. All of mine come from Radical RC or NoBs batteries. NoBs has lots of really good information on the use and set up of different model types along with recommendations for chargers. Electrodynamics has probably the best customer service of any electronics company in the hobby. Can't go wrong with any of the 3. I don't use a regulator at all. All of my receivers are the Spektrum 7000s and 95% of my servos are JR821 standard digitials. I use them in 11 different planes from a giant scale Cessna 310 down to a 4 channel trainer and have never had any problem.

RE: Changing to A123's
Hi Guys,
Duralite has A123 packs in stock. Also in about a week or so, they will have 2500 and 5000 mah A123 packs! Yes, new cells!
Duralite puts 3 leads on their packs and you can order custom length for your ECU/receiver. Heavy duty lead such as MPX/Dean/EC3, regular lead and a balance tap!
I too used Li-Mn for years from Duralite but now I have been using A123 for a few years and love the batteries!
Cheers,
Reza

With the 123's , so you have to use regulators, or not?

I can't speak about ECU's but if you can run a 5 cell NiMH pack on it you can run a straight 2 cell A123

RE: Changing to A123's
I haven't had good experience with Duralite, however it may have been my fault. I bought 2 A123 packs from them and didn't use them for 6 months or so. When I did get round to using them they were dead.
I get all my A123s from Electrodynamics now. Shipping to the UK is expensive but I'm still happy to pay as the packs are good.
