RE: 'KEROSENE OVER WITTERING' APRIL 28/29 2012
At present we have two locations we will have to fly from dependant on the wind direction and to avoid conflict with the gliders. If the wind is easterly we will be flying from the taxi track, we are hoping we may be able to move the location further to the left and use of of the hard standings as a pits and the blue box illustrates our flying box, the red line is the dividing line between the jets and the gliders. The 'H' is in the top left of the picture and that is where we are supposed to fly if it is westerly but we are hoping to change this to using the taxi way for both westerly and easterly.
We may have to use the 'H' if it is a northerly wind. We do appreciate that this is not ideal and of course we would love to use the main runway but this is not going to happen as the gliders will be operating parallel to the runway as denoted by the blue box. If it is a Northerly wind we will be using the centre of the 'H' taking off straight into the flying area and approaching to land in a circuit from the left of the box anti clockwise. We are seeking clarification on this, with so many people involved on all sides it does take time.

We used to do conventional landings on that northern taxiway so I'm sure it will be fine for our models!

Andy - what you used to miss the runway with full-size as well?

RE: 'KEROSENE OVER WITTERING' APRIL 28/29 2012
Our main concerns are making absolutely sure that there will be no confliction with the gliders and the risk is limited as much as is possible, and there are quite a few people involved on all sides in making sure this happens. The westerly map paints a different picture as we are to use the 'H' as our site which is not from ideal although not impossible to fly from which is why we are hoping to change the site for a westerly wind to the same as the easterly.
A northerly wind will put us on the middle of the 'H' and we need to ensure that all sides are happy with this which is what we are doing now.

The situation regarding our flying area has now changed. The station health and safety centre has ruled that we must operate from the 'H' section regardless of the wind direction, we have no influence over this and we must adhere to their instructions. The 'H' can be seen in the map above in the top left of the picture.

What is the preferable meeting time at the entrance to the base ? I haven't seen anything in print yet, but then again note to self, pay attention.

Sorry Ian, this event is proving a difficult one to manage as there have been so many changes. The tinings will not be to disimilar from Shawbury 930 at the main gate in the car park by the guard house, i do have a map which i need to change to a JPEG to show everyone access and egress from the site. If it changes i will let everyone know via this thread.

I had planned on flying both days but Sunday looks like a complete washout so probably not now worth the 8+hours driving for me. Damn weather was really looking forward to this one as well [&o]

I'm still going to give it a try as I never trust the weather forecast until I actually see it!!
What happens if we miss the 9am arrival time? I'm going to try to be there by then but might be a little bit late.

I don't think its a problem if you are later.
8 hours driving? You going to drive home in the evening and back again then
You'd be surprised what I'll fly in...my usual rule is if I can stand up...I fly
All, loaded...was going to take 2 or 3 only, really need to learn as loading ended up with 5!

Well I arrived at 9.00 and met up with eyeryone that had travelled to a wet RAF Wittering!
Dave flew his De Havilland Vampire (edf) which really flies well and looks alot larger in the air than on the ground! Also flown was Dave's Eflight F4 Phantom again flew really well considering the rain, certainly has a high pitch scream from the fan.
I bailed out [], but for the guys who stayed hopefully the rain stops and they can get a fly, some folks had travelled from Preston and York!
Hopefully we get some better weekends soon.....
Alan
