Default 'KEROSENE OVER WITTERING' APRIL 28/29 2012

With the kind permission of the officer commanding RAF Wittering and and the invaluable help and support of the Royal Air Force Model Aircraft Association (RAFMAA), a jet meeting will be held over the weekend of April 28 & 29 http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafmaa/events/...rwittering.cfm

This is the first in a series of jet meets that will be held of the coming year, the next one being held at RAF Wyton on June 2 & 3 with Marham and Scampton to follow. RAFMAA has been instrumental in getting the JMA access to these sites, we hope that the JMA membership will show there appreciation by supporting this and the other events that are planned.

JMA members are to book in the usual way by getting in contact with JMA Secretary Roger Kilbey http://www.jmajets.co.uk/contact.php as soon as possible, the cut off date for entries is April 15.

NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED, APRIL 15 IS THE CUT OFF DATE WHICH IS GIVEN TO US BY THE RAF POLICE AND IS NOT NEGOTIABLE.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION SUCH AS A PASSPORT OR DRIVING LICENCE WILL BE REQUIRED FOR ENTRY TO THE BASE . . . NO ID = NO ENTRY!

Hi Geoff,
I understand from the site details that we will be using the 'H' PATTERN apron at the west side of the runway.Do we know how long that is and it looks like there is a tower and buildings to negogiate on landing.
Looks ok for sport jets but could be problems for certain scale jets if your brakes don't work .Could be a problem for John's Horten best he leaves it at home i think.
Any more information would be appreciated.

That sounds like the normal place the model club and pylon boys fly from. If so then it will be fine, we have flown a few jets from there on pylon practice days with ease.

Hi Dave,

I have asked the JMA committee for clarification as I believe there are a few possibilities and I am sure they will confirm ASAP.

I've just seen the map from the first post and although the location is the same as the one we use, the proposed runway and flight direction isn't., so look forward to the committees clarification. There is a tower there and a small hut, they are normally behind out flighline so never pose a worry, but as there is so much glider activity at Wittering I can see why it wouldn't be possible to use the normal runway for a jet meet.

I looked at the ends of the other arms of the H and if it is aligned at 90 deg there are small clumps of trees at the ends of these arms and a tin shed at the other end. The whole of the area appears to be lined with lights. Is it not possible to fly off the main runway or the taxiway?

Is the access to RAF Wittering off the A1 or is there another entrance to the base, as when I was "getting some in" I used the A1 access, OK if you are approaching from the south but taking your life in your hands if approaching from the north trying to cross the A1 [&o]

Is there an alternative route of flying at this event without being a member of the JMA? Not that I am at all against joining the JMA but as my job involves extensive travel outside the UK for the majority of the association events there would only be this event and a maximum of one other I can attend this year.

You will need to enter via the main gate for security check,if i remember the last time I went to a pylon meet there.Look out for the Harrier gate guard.

No problem coming upthe A1 from the south but I agree dodgy crossing from the north.

Phil.

But what happens when you go home

Rob,

I'm in a similar boat with the JMA but for different reasons. Many of the meetings are 'down south' so it can be quite difficult to get to all of them. This year might be a bit better as Wittering will be my second event and I might get to one or maybe 2 others. I thought about whether it was worth joining but, for the sake of £30, decided that I'd rather pay than miss out. I must have paid double that just in diesel to get to Shawbury and a hotel for the Sat night at Wittering will be £50 so, on balance, it's not that much.

Thanks Darren, yes, I suppose when put into context it's not that big a price to pay, are you doing the full weekend?

I'm planning to providing the weather isn't a total washout and nothing else gets in the way. I think some of the other Elvington members will be there too.

When you leave and want to go south bound, there is another entrance you can leave by. You won't be able to enter via this entrance though

I have tried to register with Roger for this event using the JMA form which sends an email to the media rep but no reply. I did get a reply back from Dick regarding membership which was sent at the same time. Anyone able to help?

There have been a few questions about the areas from which we will operate at this meeting. There have been a few changes in the last few weeks and a few grey areas needed to be clarified. As a result we now have a view of the airfield with our operating areas overlayed on it. I just need to to get the format in to something that can be posted on here.

Thanks Jamie, not sure why the JMA email route had not worked but anyway main thing is my name is down. Really looking forward to this one, will only be bringing the UF but it seems to be one of those jets you just fly and fly. Premier Inn booked for the Saturday night....being it on!
