Wap, seeing this video is making me reconsider selling mine... I've been concerned that this plane will be a headache, but you've made it look effortless. My hats off to you and FEJ!

Thanks All;

Dub - this plane was really easy to build, no problems at all.  I don't have a lot of experience but this jet flies great.   Is it some particular thing that concerns you about the jet that you notice or is it just the forum?

Lewis,

The plane flew vey well. Looking forward to more flights with the rudder flutter stopped. No way on single mamoth. This one has almost 80 pounds out the tail. Was very happy how it landed full on fuel. i saw Ali have issues with tips stalling with landing flaps at the tip of wing so I decided to land with no flaps but used 30 degrees for take off. You can see that it lands fine without flaps.

Also Scobee is only 645 long so this one is not the monster some have thought it to be.

Wap, I've seen at least 3 of these planes fly in person and there was always a major problem. Either a surface fluttered or the plane nearly crashed on landing. Sounds like the landing issue is resolved by not using flaps. I have low tolerance for problematic planes right now, so I hope the F-14 won't fall into that category.

Whats the deal with the flaps causing a problem with landing? Are people using to much? flaps should make it more stable during land unless u get to slow with it.
Will be interesting to see how my leading edge flaps work out.

The full flap causes the washout in the wing to not work. Therefore causing a "tip stall" on slow landings. I experienced this on mine as well. If you use take off flap or as we recomend, "split" the flap and only use half of it it will work great. The real one has the same kind of issues as I understand from an F-14 pilot. I hope this helps any concern.

Splitting seems like an easy fix, Plus you could elimante one servo in the wing. Just hysol the tip portion and use one servo for the flap, do you have any idea of how much is need on the tip for this to not cause any issues?

Dub- the left rudder is a minor issue with strip set screw.  I will try and land the plane with flaps.  The planes flies great!  Kevin did a great job landing and this plane was full with fuel when it landed

Your welcome Dantley.
Fender, I know if you split it you can use full deployment as before on the inner. The landing flap % will also work fine. I don't remember the exact % but I can get it when it's time. The more flying we do the more "fine tuning" we are finding.

Fantastic plane Wap. I'm hoping the F-14 will be my next project. I would like to have it with the Y pipe and a Mammoth if at all possible. They have a smaller one with the single engine, but I like big airplanes!!!!!! Hopefully they can offer this option too. Again congratulations, and a fantastic job!

Lewis
Hey General, I saw the other FEJ you just maidened. Do you like the quality of the FEJ now? I have been looking around for a while at different kits. I would greatly appreciate and value your opinion on these kits.

I could see that having the flap ail split and using crow might be of benefit. The inboard flap could only help. As Lowell says the total length flap causes washin at the tip and induces tip stall on landing. Using split flap and having the ail up and flap down would probably totally solve the landing issue.

Congrats Wap

I have been flying the 8.5:1 version with 2 x P80's. Plane weighs in at 46# dry and has 44# of poke, flies like a dream. I use half flap for take off and full for landing and it lands so easy. Only thing I had hassles with was the swing speed control, eventually found a better one at Tower Hobbies and will try the sweep next outing.
