RE: New CGRCjets super scale A-10
Before i cut out the fuse from the stock, i decided to throw it back on the machine to cut out the avionics cooling vents. I traced them out in cad for exact placement and size. Unfortunately these inlets are not all the same size. I also machined a line where the pave penny laser tracker will mount. This will get rid of the guess work on correct placement and save that much more time on building. Im almost thinking about doing some hatches and panel lines this way as its not that hard to do.

Doing well Chris! Following this thread gearing up for the sale date...LOL! It's coming together very well, Are you still in FL?

Trying to make short work of this one but its good to spend the extra time on right design. Dont want to leave anything out this time. If you do decide to build again, this design will be much easier on you.
Yes, still in Florida. Just moved to Englewood. Although, i must say, i have met some pretty interesting people over here.

I have also made the decision to go ahead and cut the plugs for the deceleron. I was in a bit of a bind on the design and setup to use on these as i was unable to fit a good enough servo into the leading part of the aileron. I was in contact with John Munson awhile back whom was building a george miller kit and was adding decelerons. I decided to contact him to see how his setup worked out for him. He said that it worked out great, so i will have to give credit to him and his design. The deceleron servo will be housed in the wing instead of the aileron. I will be doing a mockup to make sure there is no interference between both control surfaces. Thanks John!

This pic shows mapping out of the detail, panels, lines etc to be machined into the plug , if not for actual panel scribing it will be for exact placement of raised panels or detail that will be added part way through the finishing of the plug. Note, the highlighted canopy is the 3d model. Looks as if its part of the real pic.

Chris, I only wish i could place an order but maybe after i change my career to IT and i can find a better job. Being an airline mechanic isnt all its cracked up to be. At least for the company i have worked for the last eight years.
I am in the process of installing the flaps with the hinges you sent me and it is working out great. The canopy is attached and just needs to be framed out. I want to thank you for the support even though it hasnt been your kit.
The work you did on the first kit was great but this build is just amazing.

Sorry to hear about your work situation. Times have been tough for many people, so dont feel alone. Sounds like you must have went to school for your career and you should be earning what you deserve. I would think that career should be a decent paying one , and after being there for 8 years.
Glad those hinges are working out. You will have to post some video when you get some flights in and maybe in the future we can work something out to get you into one of these A-10's.
thanks

Machined some panels on the fuse. Did a practice panel and it came out good. Was a little deeper than i liked so i adjusted for that on the fuse. In a way it may be better that they are deeper to make up for the prime coat. I machined them, sealed them and machined them again. I have not tried this before but i thought it was worth a shot seeing alot of these small latches are very small. Unfortunately i will have to use patterns for the bottom and top and do them by hand. At least most of it will be done doing it this way. Times like this, i wish it was a 1/6 scale. I think this should work out great though.

I know it looks a bit messy but i only sealed the panel areas and machined them again. You cannot tell from the photo but the lines came out more crisp as the ultralite soaked up the resin it made the ultralite more stable to machine.

Some progress on the panels. Should have both front halfs finished up tomorrow , and will start on the rear halfs. Luckily there is not alot of detailing as far as panels, panel lines on the back section. Well, at least not the sides.

Looking really good Chris! I wish i could place my plane under your cnc and put in all the panel lines and such but i will be left with drawing mine in and then airbrushing the preshading like whats done on the plastic models.
I have the wing of my Wowplanes A-10 done with the hinges i got from you and they work great. Been working feverishly to get it to primed finish enough to maiden it at E-jets next weekend. I just finished all the wiring and soldering and that work should cover a electrical degree some how as to what all i made and how its connected. Glad that part is done so i can throw all in the plane shortly.
You like me to send you the pics or post them??? Dont matter to me but i dont think those are what ou had in mind for this new plane.
Later, back to burning the midnight oil.

Yes. Would like to see some video and pics of maiden. Hope those hinges work out well for you. Dont burn yourself out.
thanks

Couple more pics. Much filler and sanding to get all flanges true with canopies hatches etc. for a nice tight fit. I hate this part but it must be done. Being cut out of ultralight the edges are nice to work with over foam and glass and they are more accurate. The plugs are a bit heavier and take much longer to machine but after that it comes together quickly. Just about got the front canopy fit up nicely today. Back canopy will need to be fit up against the front next. When these are finished i will make cutout detail for clear canopy.

RE: New CGRCjets super scale A-10
Thanks Thomas. You still going to make it down?
Having an issue with trying to figure out middle hatch. Not too happy with the design now as i dont want it to look like a hatch. I would like it to follow along the panel lines as outlined and add rivets to make it look more natural. I could add extra structure in this area especially with the way the wing mounts, i will loose a bit of strength in this area making the hatch larger. Am open to any thoughts or ideas if you guys have any. Maybe i should not change it?

Chris,
Not sure when ill be back down, but im sure it will be atleast one more time this year.
I agree the center hatch over the wing appears to sacrifice allot of strength. Any way you could make a central battery tray system that could span that hatch opening along the length of the fuse? Atleast then the additional structure would be functional instead of just additional weight. Then again, a layer of 3/32 or 1/8" contest grade balsa along the side walls instead of 1/16 would probably make up for it, especially if you put some light weight carbon along it as well

RE: New CGRCjets super scale A-10
Thankfully i have received my bearings for my machine. Was able to get the rest of the engine nacelle cut, back tailcone and i 3d cut the gun shroud for perfect fit. After i attach the gun housing i can continue primer on the bottom and finish detail. I will start the wing this week and all will be downhill from there. I plan on putting a flange on engine nacelle inlet this time as well, so it will be separate piece.
Should be recieving cad for scale struts soon as well. The plan is to go with scale hydraulic cylinders.
Couple pics. One big issue my last A-10 as well as the other A-10s i have seen, is the front profile and contours from nose to canopy. I am 100% satisfied with this 3d model. I cannot believe how good it came out.

RE: New CGRCjets super scale A-10
Bit more progress today. Finished attaching engine nacelle pieces and started some filler.
Although it was nice to layup the wingtip with the wing on the old version, i have decided to do a separate wingtip. I will be doing this because of the aileron undercut at wing and for aileron hinging.
