Hi Jesse. Thanks! Happy holidays to you as well.
That's a very nice fan you have there. Tam only did the modifications for his tj100. I may need to design a inlet for this fan. If you have some accurate specs for me, I could possibly 3d print a couple inlets for you. This would cut the cost by far instead of doing molds as im not sure the demand for this setup.
I have quite a few pre orders to fill as well as a notification list so at this time its hard to give you a lead time. As of now im waiting on some new gear components from China. I sent the prototype parts back to China 3 months ago and they tried to rape me on customs and its been an ongoing thing trying to get the package back. Im very disappointed as I had about $2000 in parts I had sent over and $150 for shipping. I had to abandon the package as they wanted about $800 to get it out. Fed ex had told me it would be 5% which is about $75. I think someones looking for a little extra side $ and I didn't want to give into that. The machinist is half way through another set for me and im hoping to get them within the next few weeks to get the gear finished up.
Thanks
chris

Hey Chris,
How's it going? The holidays are upon us, and I wish you and yours the very best!
I'm slowly gathering up all the bits I'll need to put one of your A-10's together, and have settled on the Vasafan 110, 14-blade fans. They are awesome, all-carbon fiber construction and have a great sound to them. You mentioned that Tam did the inlet ducts for the old kit, so is he still the source for them? The Vasa's are 110mm fans with the outer duct being 112mm in diameter. We'll have to talk about which version of your airframe suits me best. I'm more interested in a "Almost ARF" version, but I want to do the final painting and markings myself. Are you taking orders now, and what will be your lead time for a kit? I'll be able to afford one after the new year, and look forward to checking out your handiwork up close! Thanks and Happy Holidays!

That's great, Chris. If it would help with the inlets, I can send you one of the ducts so you can work off of the actual item. Otherwise, they measure exactly 112mm outside diameter at the leading edge of the duct, and the wall thickness is exactly 1mm. The length of the outer duct itself is 95mm, not counting the built-in stators and motor mount case on the back. It's a straight cut duct, without a lip. Let me know what you think.

Hi Jesse
I think it will just be a straight inlet. Nothing too fancy. Would be nice to have the duct just to mount for good placement of the fan though. I will leave it up to you. Maybe you could just give me the length and mount measurements. How far back the mount is from the leading edge of the fan.
thanks

Thanks,
Vasa doesn't send the fans with the mounting tabs installed, I'm guessing so that each builder can mount them as they wish, but sends them loose. I'll have to attach them myself, but I'm waiting for some Aeropoxy to come back in stock over at Bob Violett's website. I'm not familiar with how the fans mount to your nacelle, so can you tell me if the tabs Vasa includes will work? The tabs are 45mm long by 20mm wide. Hole spacing is 25mm. When I get them attached, I plan on sending you one of the ducts to work with on the inlets. Thanks for your hands-on approach to designing this A-10!!

Heres a layout of the mounts and rough measurements. I add a bit more on the mount for smaller fans and adjustment. This can be shaved away if necessary.

Hi Morgan
I was taking preorders for awhile but have stopped taking deposits on the kit now. I can add you to the notification list if you would like.
thanks

Hi Guys
Yes im still here. Just thought I would post a little update for now. After all the demotivating setbacks, work, plugs sticking, retracts design, loosing the prototype parts for gear to the mail system, I think were finally coming to the end and will have a test flight soon. The retracts design has been a real challenge for me as I did not want a cheesy design and wanted to make sure it was a drop in system. I should be receiving a completed electric setup within a few weeks from Bruce at Century jet. He vacations down here a few months out of the year so he stopped by my place quite frequently to discuss the design. My place was his vacation from his vacation, lol. He will be doing the electric mechanisms and attaching the strut tubes to the machined detail that I had designed and machined. They will come with sequencers and lights.
On the other hand, I have Tam supplying me with a couple tj110's. I will be sending him a test model that he will also be setting up with 110's so we will have a couple test models.

I have also been doing some testing with foam cores for the tires to lighten them up a bit. Im using a 4lb density flexfoam and after curing with the tire for a few days, they seem to be working great. Heres the process of making the foam cores. I 3d printed a mold to cast the foam in. Its working out excellent. I also designed the mold to accept the foam for casting.

Heres one of the mains under 20lbs of weight. The A-10 will be in the 20-25 lb range so my assumption is that each tire will take about a 3rd of the load. Ya 20 lbs is a little overkill but they are holding up good

A note. As you can see the rim is powder coated. The gear can be powder coated for about $100 more. Or you can just paint them yourself for $100 less. The machinist powder coated all these for me and they came out great. Tougher than paint too.

Some of the gear workings and detail. I was going to 3d print these myself but FDM printing is hard to catch detail at this scale so I had them resin printed. I will mold and cast these myself. I have a casting resin that is comparable to injection molding that I will be using for these since the wall thickness is only about 1/32".

Hi Joe
No. Dont worry about that. Just send me a cad model like you did with the spark. I will also need the proper exhaust dimension for that fan. Tj110 is about 85mm. I already designed and printed it for the A-10. Did you recieve the one for the spark yet?

Hi Chris,
Leaving Az for home (Wa) tomorrow. I'll shoot something over to you next week. I'll think about discharge diameter size but I'm thinking more on the higher thrust end of the spectrum.

Chris,
I have been following your thread for 2 years now and honesly I'm starting to loose confidence. I know you are working hard and your priorities may not be on the A10 since there's more important things in life and I do understand.
I do speak for ALL the modelers on your notification list that are waiting for a the A10 availability. Interestingly enough, you are probably the only one to eventually offer this plane in that scale. Please could you come up with an update and if your new kit is to be delayed for some time, could you at least propose the previous one to modelers who are not looking necessarily for a full scale model but rather to a nice semi-scale A10 for 90 to 110mm EDFs.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi guy. Sorry, I did not get any notifications for the last two posts. I have been trying to get on the thread on my laptop but for some reason it will not display the page when I go to the thread. I thought it was just an issue with RCU. I was just trying to post some updates again and the same thing so I tried it on my phone and it worked but could not figure out how to post the pictures. Im now trying my other computer and it looks to be working fine. Weird.
Anyways, here a few updates on the scale struts. I was suppose to have these over four months ago and they finally arrived today. Hence the long pause. I just put it all together real quick for show. They will need a couple more minor things before I can test them. I think they are coming out quite nicely. The nose mounting plate and components are just a prototype but have been tested by Bruce.
