Silly VELCRO Question???
A silly question perhaps, but would like an answer from guys that use a lot of VELCRO in their airplanes!! I am using VELCRO tape (hooks one side, loops on the other side) to secure the fuel tanks in my F15. Which side (hook or loop) stays glued better? Will be using Hysol to glue the VELCRO to fiberglass...

RE: Silly VELCRO Question???
Contact Steve at Vel-Tye and order some 87-S(Hook strip). Glue the 87-S into the airframe and then wrap the one-wrap straps around the tank and press into place. He even has complete kits just for this purpose.

RE: Silly VELCRO Question???
Well i learned this from my electric helis, the best method is to put the hook on the surface thats going to be glued, since the pile/fuzzy part wheres out faster. With a jet this is not a big deal since how often do u remove your fuel tanks? My thought was batteries where out faster and the heli does not so u will always have to replace batteries and not the heli.

RE: Silly VELCRO Question???
Thanks for all the suggestions about where to get the velcro but I already have a number of rolls of velcro tape that I will be using. When I use it up I'll try some of the suggested vendors.
I don't think wear will be a problem as the velcro tape is to hold in fuel tanks and, hopefully, I won't need to remove them very often! Just trying to find out which side (hook or loop) is more permanent when glued...

Bare wood is a no no so I suggest you seal it with paint

RE: Silly VELCRO Question???
If you use self adhesive Velcro® on a rough surface like wood or fiberglass weave, rub on a coat of 5 minute epoxy or thin CA first. It always sticks better to a smooth surface.

RE: Silly VELCRO Question???
Guys, I always add a good blob of ZAP ZAPZap-A-Dap-A-Goo-on the Velcro to Battery or fiberglass-
It's great stuff-Just for 100% safety
The bigger the Blob the better.

RE: Silly VELCRO Question???
I am with Harley, smear and layer of 5min epoxy on the surface you are going to stick the velcro to. If you can, stick the velcro to the epoxy when it is still slightly tacky, it will stay on forever. I have used E6000 for this too, also works well.
