F104g 1:4 scale

Hello Dyonisusbacchus, you maybe have first kit of F 104, because Damiano sell 3D plans and modelers cut themselves kits...
Few months ago I made arrangement with Damiano and I cut kits from his 3D drawings. Because that I told that I am only authorized for his short kits.
F 104 parts from pictures are cut here in my workshop few days ago.
We have plan to offer five jet models in wooden short kit form in next few months. Starfighter is first...
Best regards
Mirce

That's great Mirce! I'm happy you are selling more and that you will construct one! I hope others will also chime in here that have purchased kits. I have ordered a 1/32 F-104 plastic kit to study for detail and outline, I want mine to be as scale as possible. Can't wait for mine to get here, this thing looks like it's going to be a blast to build!

Thank you Luke, hope you will enjoy building this model.
When I saw parts I also get "inspiration" to build one.
For me this is important to show building process, to can prepare all other parts for building (tubes, hinges, cabin...) and later to made "F 104 Detail set" - set of all details on fuselage, wings and tail surface made from vinyl foil.
I sell a lot of that sets for warbirds...
Also, panel lines, rivets, paint masc will be available, but for all that first I need to made model to prepare everything in good scale...
With models I already made and new jets wooden kits from Damiano this will be interesting year...

OK, F 104 Starfighter...
Since we started with the sale of F 104 wooden kit, it is fair that make one model and show the building process.
This development will show which parts still need to be made and offer (canopy, aluminum tubes, retracts, hinges, etc...).
That will raise Starfighter wooden kit on next level and help customer to find all parts on one place.
Finish model give opportunity to made all sets for scale look fuselage & wing surface.
Finally, quarter scale F 104 Starfighter is fantastic jet model and new challenge for me.
So, many reasons...
This introduction is like as a justification to wife why another jet model...
Damiano made great job, concept of this kit is different from some I made earlier. Applied solutions immediately show that this is the work of mechanical engineers. Parts are assembled as a "Puzzle", fit very well, no need for plan, for assembling drawing is just enough. Everything is assembled very quickly...
First I prepare a lot of pins...
I started F 104 making with tip tanks. Tanks are huge - 1,3 meter long!!!

I like thisconcept. Large scale jets as basic wood kits. Targeted at the skilled builderwho likes to build but don´t own a fortune. I will follow this tread with interest. But just maybe a 4 meter long Starfighter is a little bit too much for me? Ihave to think about that one. I really wonder what more planes will follow inthe future. I guess time will tell.

I got my kit from Mirce yesterday afternoon, little more than a week and it was held up in customs for a few days.
I assembled the tail and nose section in a few hours, here it is next to what used to be giant scale, my all wood Ziroli F9F-2 Panther! The Ziroli Panther was a good warm up for this project, although the 104 seems to be an easier build so far, all the pieces just fit like a 3D puzzle.

That looks awesome. Are you just planning on CA'ing everything since it sounds like the fit is near perfect. I just ordered my kit from Mirce last week, and it shipped out on Friday heading to the Chicago area.

Thanks jetworks, I am using CA, I bought the industrial size bottles. I have the entire fuselage built already, the ducting is a little fiddly, worked on that for a while but it's finished. I changed the outside intake shape for a more scale look, this was easy to do, the original is circular. I'm almost ready to start sheeting, looking forward to a lot of fun with that!

I start work on my F 104 also. As Luke told, assembling is pretty easy and go fast...
Because I got files from Damiano this is new build for me too, so Luke and I are in touch and exchange information via e-mail.
I was delighted with many details, first how all the pieces fit, then with the frame which shows the work of mechanical engineers.
Everything is strong just after assembling, without glue.
Parts are made so that you can not replace them, because the gutters are of different dimensions and simply can not be compiled.
The front and rear of the fuselage, composed for an hour ...
On the basis of Damiano's drawings, my friend Martin made 3D drawing and g-code file for prototype of elevator - rudder connection.
I print it...
For model, this part will be made from strong aluminum...
Today I order aluminum round and square tubes for landing gears, elevator and wing joiners.
I start work on center fuselage section also, I compiled all parts but must made insignia on every part for future customer. There are a lot of pieces, so marks will help a lot...

I use both thick and thin CA, I just don't want to wait around for glue to dry when I'm on a roll.
Mirce, I see on your tail section you do not have the doublers on the lower section, see arrows in picture.
These were not in my kit along with some of the other doublers, but they are easy to make.

You're welcome Mirce, I'm extremely happy you decided to offer this design, I want to help in any way I can.
I've got my fuselage bolted together so I could do some sheeting. I will wait for the wing spars and elevator mechanism before I get to far, but the wings and stab will build fast, they are so small!
You can see how I rounded the intakes for a better scale look.

The most fun I've had since the Ziroli Panther is sheeting the F-104 intakes! This is what I got to show for 1 week of work:
I'm very happy I modified the intakes, they look much better now. I must say I am extremely happy with this plane so far, it's
been so much fun. It's not an Airworld F-104, but I tell my flying buddies I'll look like a rich guy from a distance! lol! Kind of like
wearing a gold watch from Walmart! Seriously though, I highly recommend this plane!
Here is the paint scheme I've chosen:
Everyone does the silver USAF, never seen the Italian Camo before. It will help to hide the little things that are not so scale, by breaking up the
lines, and it's just beautiful.

Great work Luke, you show that this model can be made pretty fast.
At a pace that you do, your F 104 will be soon finish.
You and I are the first two that make this model lately, and you are first who order short kit from me.
After, or better word, during our build all unknown will be clarified, so new buyers will have all details.
Also, with short kit new customer can order immediately all extra parts (aluminum tubes, canopy, part for connection elevator & rudder, etc..) so they will not waste time waiting on them.
Maiden flight of this model was at 2012 and this was first F 104 in 1/4 size.
Airworld's Starfighter in this scale appeared a few years later.
Model from our kit is version for modeler which want to have very interesting scale model for not extreme amount of money.
Good builder can made all details, and with paint & weathering model can be in same level like "plastic" model.
Damiano made more than 120 flights with this model and use 160 turbine!!!
Only big difference between this model and "plastic" F104 model are that our retract are not scale.
If you want, you can buy scale retracts for this size F 104, and with a little more effort it is possibile to install them in this construction.
But as I told, this is a plane designed for people who prefer to make their own models and haven't "unlimited" budget...
In the meantime, I got all the aluminum tubes for wing joiners and landing gears, all parts are prepare in machine workshop and now are ready for sending.
Yesterday I got the price for the part that connects the aileron and rudder.
About F 100, wooden kit in 1/4 scale will be available soon.
Damiano made, have and fly that model (more than 750 flights !!!!!!!!) but his model have wings and tail surfaces from foam.
In last few weeks he work to prepare everything for wooden kit and as soon as that modifications will be made, F 100 wooden short kit will be offer to market.
Same story is with wooden kit for F 86, also 1/4 scale, which will have maiden flight in next few weeks.
We have plan, until middle of this year, to prepare for market two more jet model wooden kits.
With my Galeb G2 in 1/5 and 1/4 scale, that will be seven nice big wooden jet kits from www.nsmodeler.rs

For landing gears Damiano use Behotec C 50 set.
Main landing gear "legs" he use, are parts from same firm, but I think he custom made set around wheel shaft. Not sure...
I must check that and give you better information in next few days...
All in all, retracts are C 50...
About canopy, I find guy who made canopy for this model. He told me that he can made clear canopy but I need to order 10 pieces.
Delivery will be two weeks after payment.
I'll order canopy soon...
