Why does nobody swing the wings? I was for sure expecting to see that I understand the CG will shift aft causing a pitch change when sweeping the wings but thats what mixes are for.

fender when you get your tomcat going you'll understand why....i have 7 flights on mine and haven't had a chance to swing the wing. 2 things are stopping me from swinging.

1st-the damn speed controller they give you is a piece of ****, it works when it wants to work and i couldn't even retract the wings today. it only opens the wings , but doesn't retract.
they don't even give you the program sequence to program the controller. i spoke to them from china and they recommended to talk to lowell wexler. he doesn't own the tomcat
anymore, so off to the internet to get the program.
2nd-for some reason, my tomcat is pulling right, even with full trim left. so i got to do a lateral balance tomorrow....to see if that fixes the problem.

i mean, you want your tomcat perfectly trimmed so that it would fly itself, then once you get several flight under your belt and all the bugs worked out...sweep the wings and deal with trim issues again. according to lowell, you just need to add 5%up elevator when the wings are swept and 50% reduction on the taileron movement.

or this can happened:

Mave, I don't remember reducing the taileron by 50%. I did however reduce the spoilers by 50% for wing sweep.

Oh, by the way...when you get your tomcat i hope you make a pre-flight check list of the entire plane, cause you'll be surprised how many little set screws and allen bolts get loose or were loose from the factory.

I did a full flap, full airbrake landing today...And all i can say is WOW..how slow i can get her to land...didn't have any tip stall tendencies and she gracefully touched mains first then nose. stayed on power while maintained about 10 degree up nose.....

Then as she was rolling off to the Taxi way the damn wheel and brake assembly comes off. This is why i tell you, and all tomcat pilots to check your plane and then double check again.

Well, that statement goes to everyone in the RC community...

See you in Kentucky

hey lowell,

I remember you telling me that pitch was not a problem, but you attempted a bank and the tomcat barreled rolled twice on you..so what i remembered you telling me was the 5% up on the elevator, no spoilers on the swept wing and the 50% throw reductions on the taileron. Again this is from Memory....not saying it's official.

Hi All:

All of our models, we can convert them to be electric gears without problem. But needs some times to convert them one by one.

Some models with regular gear doors are easy to convert their gear doors, we will do them first, but some are not easy, such as F15E, F14 and F18F gear doors that come with many doors together. Need some more time to figure them out. But for electric gears and electric brakes won't be any probelm.

F16 gear part 2:

Hi All:

After two years, I got another chance to fly this F14 again. This time, this F14 model was produced with honeycomb material which brought down weight a lot. I felt it was so much easy to fly than before due to light weight construction.

First maiden flight was simple. Second flight, I swung the wings and felt I can turn without fast speed than before. It was exceed than what I thought in my mind. Also, the elevators are directly movement which made the model more stable in air. I have two set of wings (One with flaps and slats, one with no thing) for this F14. I will fly another wing set with flaps and slats. So my landing can slow down. I will make more videos.

Thanks

Ken

interesting idea, did this design come from flutter issues?

Fender...the issue is that, no matter what size servo or how powerful the servo is or how many servos you place in the back.....there is not enough torque to move the stabs INITIALLY. I have Hitec 7955 powered at 6 volts and i have 408 ounces of torque on the servo, but when you put the mechanism and stab together there's not enough torque to move the stab like we would like too. In other words you can lightly press on the edge of the stab with your finger and give full up elevator, the servo has hard time moving the stab. So what 1/2 time show (Robert), Vega (bill) and I have done was buy short control arms and drill the holes for the control rods closer to the center of the servo spline. This gives more torque and stops any potential flutter. Also stops the elevators from drooping or dragging at the field.

The only flutter I had so far was because the 4 bolts that hold the elevator mechanism to the former loosened up and not because i didn't tighten them...they were tight and with thread locker , but got loose because the wood began to compress when you tighten the bolts and with the pressure i guess began to have lateral play. i had to machine a back plate that would act like a large washer in order for the 4 bolt to be torqued evenly and the surface area was increased.

Going back to the initial question as why the changed the mechanism, I even at one point put to 2 servo's on the elevator mechanism to see if it would make a difference to no avail. Don't get me wrong once the stabs starts to move there's no way in hell to stop it from moving or push it in the opposite direction. The problem is the initial movement to get the servo going.

Now they moved the servo to a point in the stab where there servo needs little torque to move the elevator. It has leverage point.

My tomcat is flying awesome, but I'm glad they did the change.

Yeah I had already planned on using a smaller diameter metal arm on the servo. I am going to use the highest torque servo I can. did you add any weight to the front of the elevator? I dont have to balance them but just some to help. I would think just a little more weight in the leading edge would help a bit.

Go figure as soon as I buy one they change the design LOL
