Thanks for all the replies guys. I want scale because I'm more of a builder than a flyer and I'll be spending time detailing the plane before I even start thinking about purchasing a turbine. I'm not going to be cheaping out but not spending every last dime either

it says turbines because it can be made for 2, but the vast majority of guys flying the yellow F-15 use 1 turbine it goes to a y pipe which splits into the duel exhaust. Must simpler to setup. This is common for most twin engine models. The full size may use 2 but modelers mosly only use one. Look at Tam Jets in the pipes section and you will see a picture of a y-pipe.

I gotta Boomerang Elan with a p-70 and smoke. I got my waiver in Miss. and had a very fun time doing it. It's easy to land but with a p-70 I land with a little bit of power. It can fly slow, but then at the same time, you can get it going. Of course, not 180 or 170, but a good 150-65. I love my Elan and wouldn't trade it for anything! Especially the trailing link struts! Those are by far the coolest things ever!

I think this thread will be good for a lot of people looking at getting into turbine jets. I'm still leaning towards purchasing and detailing a CT-114 airframe, but if I wish to fly sooner, I may look around for a used shockjet and turbine to get started. I like the fact it can be used on a grassy runway and doesn't need a massive runway, either!

Without question the best jet I have flown (for flight characteristics) has been the Boomerang XL. Rails very nice and may be the easiest plane I have ever flown.

Here are a couple vids of my Boomer with a Simjet 3000:

I wouldn´t buy anything used as a starter gear in jet flying for money saving, specially as a beginner. In my opinion it´s still cheaper to buy a new turbine, airplane,etc.. and log a lot of worry-free flights on them.

About the Shockjet, is a good way to start with. It´s cheap and quick to build, easy to fly too. It also uses the same range of thrust turbines of the Tutor.

You can fly it and get the first thrills of turbine flying meanwhile you over-detail the CT-114.. after this you just swap the turbine and have a go with it.

Is the Gryphon a good first jet or a high performance sports machine ?

Its designed as a trainer/sports jet. Big wing area, stable and slow on approach, lifts off easily and on a short roll out, easy install and access, no fussy canopy glass and cockpit, drop in servos etc.......

Put a powerful turbine in it and yes of course it will cruise, however a VT80 is ideal and with that will fly 'as a trainer'.
