Default Having crate shipped from UK.. How ?

I need to arrange to have a model shipped form the UK (near Manchester airport ... over States-side, over into the NYC area. Would anyone have any suggestions on how i can arrange this and what shipping methods may be available ? The shipper can drop the crate off at an airport or shipping terminal, and I can also pick up at a terminal locally, so it owuld not need to be door to door ... I know airlines used to offer freight services, is this still the case these days ? ( I shipped with Lufthansa years ago, but they don't do shiping anymore .. )

thanks for any suggestions

all the best ,

Step One Open check book
Step Two Write a number with lots of zeros.
I dont think there is any easy way now. I used to do freight direct with the airlines years ago, but I think 9/11 put an end to that. You might look into a frieght consolidator over there and try and get in a can coming to NJ. Good luck, Scotty

Voy,

Drop Nigel Mitchell a mail [email protected]

www.ctfreight.co.uk/

They offer very cheap international crate shipping. They operate out of London Heathrow but will collect the crate if needed.

Regards,
Mark

Here in Cyprus we find shipping from the UK is getting too expensive. I can ship a large model from France for a quarter of what it costs from the UK.
I see Al's hobbies has the Turbinator in stock, so am waiting to hear what the shipping is likely to be.

nearly as much as the plane I would guess I am afraid.
It's a huge box ( 2.1M long )
Shipping costs have been steadily going up across the board for the past few years
Over size ( over 1.5m) shipping rates have recently gone through the roof
Lastly. The route to Cyprus from the UK seems to be one of the most expensive that we get quoted on, and trust me. We have tried working with over a dozen different shipping companies and agents over the years.
I am almost all but done with shipping my models to and fro events any longer. If I must, then I use my regular freight agent called transvalair based at Gatwick. They are not the cheapest, but by far the best, most reliable and most caring shipper I have ever used.
Regards Al

Hi Ali. yes it has got very expensive to ship from the UK. I got a massive box containing a Bearcat to fit a Moki 150 Radial, shipped from France to Cyprus for 80 Euros, & an Aviation design Phoenix for 75 Euros.

Guys , thanks very much for the suggestions. I have put out some contacts and am going to wait to hear back on freight charges. I'm actually having a 1/6 scale 7 foot long 40 lbs turbine bell 412 heli shipped. The tail boom comes off so looks like the length will not be an issue. Worse case I have found FedEx will take it from an airport drop off for around $450 into the NYC area.

Mark, I just also emailed Nigel, and will see if he has any option to offer ..

all the best, and thanks again ...

Have you tried relocation companies like Crown world wide movers? They may be able to put it in a shared container. The issue will be the time to literally ship it.
