Cheap is cheap I agree, yet it's ironic that some of these chinese cheap 2.4 systems use a more robust transmission technology than Spektrum (the reliability of components could be another story)... Now that's a real shame! Yet a lot of Jet flyers still use DSM2 "which should be Ok for small events"[X(]

Don't knock it until you have tried it, there are thousands of happy club guys flying this system without complaint and they are always on back order at HK which must say something. Another example of the old jet pilots adage "if its not expensive enough then it's no good". I would use this over another wellknown brand that I have had experience with anytime.

I wouldn't use one in anything outside of a foamy. Not because of a price, or the fact that it's from hobby king, but because of lack of a track record. Once tens of thousands of systems are having thousands of glitch free flights, and no failures I would consider it. But when it comes to the only link between me and my jet, I'll stick with what has worked for me and thousands of others for now.

I agree that is why I fly DSM2

I agree.
Don't get me wrong, I fly my jets with Futaba 12FG, but I have seen many DSM related problems but non 9X related (with FRsky module)
Actually, the 9X radio is a great radio for the price, and you can change the software easy, choose any kind of module and have so many upgrades for it.
I always recommend it to the beginners who wants a good system for a relatively low cost model.

There's nothing wrong with these systems when flying foamies, but I have never seen a foamy become a 200mph, 40# out of control molatove coctail. A lot of it comes down to responsibility.

I am by no means an elitist jet pilot either.

Its funny, I bought a 12X for my 10lb foamy. Needed all 12 channels.

Dont think i could ever trust a 50 dollar radio to fly a 10k plane.

Sometimes you just get what you pay for. My 2 cents.

Count me in that group please, because receiving crappy products and even crappier customer service from HK apparently means that I am "up myself".

Others are apparently up THEMselves, unable to say anything good about those of us who have had negative experiences and wish to help others avoid the same mistakes.

In the mean time, I suggest that anyone wanting an extremely inexpensive 2.4 look into the Tactic line made by Futaba. No frills, dirt cheap, available at your LHS, and backed by a domestic customer service organization.

huh, only $53.00 wonder what the profit margins are on Futaba/JR products?
A number of years ago I bought the latest topJR set from a model shop in Hong Kong (Kevin Lee's "Tact Cheong" in Mong Kok, I wonder if he is still there)
I'm still using it, with a 2.4 module.

For the identical radio set(Europe spec) the Hong Kong hobby shop price was 42% of my LHS price, or 45% of the big discount store price, so Futaba and JR always enjoyed huge margins. I suspect the difference has been eroded considerably by internet shopping.
