RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Hi Kewelaing,
Are those lights made exclusively for the viper or are they for another jet and you have modified to fit the viper? Would be very interested.
Thanks

Hi Jeremy,
The lighting system is universal, not only for the viper.I only made a few modifications to fit my viper.
By the way, this set of lights series is complete, depending on your preference.
Regards
William

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
I have asked a couple of times about a web site for the lighting system, thinking that the message went to the sender, I guess I didn't send it to the right guy, if anyone has the web site for the lighting sustem for the Viper at the top of page 21 of the build can you please give it out.
Thank you.

Gone quiet here I taxied my jet around a bit, had me chasing it down as it went down a hill on my street as the brakes didnt work, turns out all my cycling of the gear didnt leave enough PSI for them to work! Interesting, the JL brakes require more than 50 PSI to function with a UP6, theres something new I just learned! The idle thrust from the K100 really wants to make this thing go, I bet it would hit about 15MPH on the ground on idle!
I had it out for maiden this weekend but didnt fly it. I need a south wind at my field. Its not that I dont like right hand patterns, its just for my first flight I want to make a long approach, and from the right at my field that would put me too close to the interstate that goes through there. I get alot guff for not wanting to fly right hand at my field but in my opinion with a turbine power it is not safe to make an approach from the south/right due to a building that you have to fly over the top of and the interstate right there. Further, some of these guys have even stalled out over the building due to the turbulance it creates and hit the semi trailers below.
This is why I almost sold my viper, these same guys that give me crap are the ones talking smack about me not wanting to land from that direction! Sick of it! Anyways forget them I'll fly the way I feel safe and you want catch me crashing into a semi trailer thats for sure.
The winds are crazy in my area right now so I will just plan on a May Maiden unless all the sudden the weather gets right. We got 70 degrees in a day, and later that night snow
Here is a pic of my field so you can see what I am talking about. The fly over area is best for approaches from the North/left.

Do what you think is safe for you and other ,don't worry about what people said , and don't sell the plane or give up your hobby because what people said , it's your hobby , wish you good luck for the maiden .

Binsonic that is actually what I did. It just gets twisted in to "I cant do right turns or fly a right hand pattern". Then the question of my waiver comes into to play since I have to be able to do that.
Of course I can and I take right turns all the time in my figure 8s. I just wont make a right hand approach at that field due tothe reason I stated and picture I posted.
PS I do make right hand approaches at the at field with my other planes and EDFs that require much less space to turn around and land in.

For those that have flown knifedge, can you post your experience and how the airplanes handles it? (does it fly sustanined KE and does it have much roll/pitch coupling).
Mike, I know you fly yours alot, care to chime in here... seeing as if I order one it will be from you!

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Flying knife edge is pretty simple and straight forward. it will do it at about 1/4 rudder input. Slight down elevator to keep it straight. Use full rudder and you can do knife edge loops. William did that in one of his video.
Both of us use stock jl turbine with 24 lbs of thrust.
Yes. I fly a lot with it and Gryphon because both are simple to up keep.
Mike.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Hey flew the viper today. Will get some small video posted. A few clicks of trim on elevator is all I needed. I used a crow setup and it really causes this thing to slow down! The elevator on mine way way touchy so I need to dial in more expo. ON landing, it was sinking too fast then I over corrected on approach and made it jump in the air, landing was very good but just approach was ugly due to the touchy elevator.
The other issue I have is that I flew about 6 minutes, I was left with about 1 inch of fuel in the front main tank (stock tank). I didnt even push it that hard, only going to wot on take off and on two passes. One of my rear tanks had a small amount of fuel left, because it is in parellel so I will hook the rear tanks in series to fix that issue. Seems I can never get them to drain evenly.
Now I had this issue on my f-86D, people would claim 8 mins with fuel to spare, I would fly with throttle management 5 mins and barely have any reserve left. SO I guess here we go again, I could never figure out why my turbines eat so much fuel, but no one else had a K80 I discussed with just jet munts or P80.
So can someone with a K100 chime in, how long are you flying, what throttle etc.. I plan to only fly 5 mins so I can do a lot of WOT passes and I'll have a min or two to spare if that.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Firstly congratulations on the flight!!
I can't comment on the K100 but my friend has the merlin 100 with the smoke tanks for fuel and single front stock tank. He lands with half the front tank full. My P80se uses both main tanks and I land with half a tank left. Flight times are 7 minutes from take off with flying around at half most of the time.
Did you use a stock tank for your front tank? Seems very thirsty to go through nearly 3l of fuel in that time.
Did you spend time range checking with the engine on before flying or taxing around?? Perhaps this chewed up some as well

I forgot main tank sits at an angle, so I had a little less than half left after leveling it. I also fly 1 or 2 clicks over half and I am at a high altitude, maybe thats the difference between 6 and 7 minutes? My flight times start once I am airborne.
So I can fly 6 mins but will be pushing the reserve if I do alot of Wot, So probably will go for 5.5 mins.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Also how much fuel is there in total? With mine using the two stock tanks I have 3L available, by using the 2 smoke tanks and a single fuel tank are you reducing this amount?
Not sure on the altitude thing as we are not to high above sea level here so that may be a contributing factor as well.
How did you find it when you opened it up to full stick on the power? It really gets up and grooves along!

Jeremy I have about 4 oz less than the stock tanks. I has about 3 oz in the rear tank left, then I realized why as I used different clunks in the tanks, OOPS. So dont drain very consistent. I will suck the fuel out of the whole thing and see what I have left for fuel, I am thinking it may be a half of a tank like you said.
The jet was faster than my f-86D but WAY easier to fly. Its slower than my f-16, but I flew it in a smaller area which made it seem that much faster. Landing was the same as my f-86D but it actually landed easier as there is no dutch roll!
I did not do much short of vertical humpty dumps, as one thing did suprise me. I would make a WOT pass then go to a couple clicks above half throttle, and on my 2nd pass it was still going fast.
I am happy with the jet, just wish it was a warbird but it is perfect for grass operation and a everyday flyer. I wish I would of bought it as my first jet, th elanding I had which wasnt bad, still would of ripped the retracts out of my f-86D since there is not strength in there. This thing shook it off makes you look better than you are!

ELECTRIC UNDERCARRIAGE OPTIONS
Has anyone sussed out the options for an electric U/c for this model? I have found that I really enjoy the lack of hassle on the E-flite with my Boomerang Nano. I would like to do the same on this Viperjet. Obviously something rather sturdier is required. On the whole I fly from mown grass rather than Tarmac and the trailing arm systems seem to do the business. POSITIVE or NEGATIVE advice equally welcome.

Down and locked can do a conversion but it cost as much as the gear. I have hear good thing but its only hearsay. From my understanding D&L can convert any gear to electric. You send your gear in.
Glad your non is using the e-flite gear, are you just using the wire struts? May have to consider that option!
